X-Pipe or H-Pipe

Hello, Im new to this forum and new to the Infiniti/Nissan Scene as well.

I bought a 2011 37s coupe, and installed the Meisterschaft axle back exhaust. To my surprise it was much quieter than I had expected, so I removed the resonators to see if I heard a difference. Turns out now the car is incredibly loud even at low rpms.

I am having an exhaust shop fabricate me a true dual setup with an X or H section installed. Would anyone be able to tell me the difference in sound suppression between those two components?

I would go w/ the X, better cancellation at the frequencies that cause rasp, and more efficient flow.

X pipe for sure. I had a custom cutback built using an x pipe and it sounds magnificent.

i had an Magnaflow 11386 installed on my 350 with the fake hks and it made thecar sound awesome. i can only imagine it would sound beastly. i seen a couple videos on youtube with that and test pipes and muffler delete and it sounds sexy. thats what im going for at the end of the month

Sorry to revive an old thread, but for you guys who have done custom exhaust work, did you go with mandrel or crush bends?

I believe mine is all mandrel bent. I cannot remember though to be honest. I had it done at a shop that ONLY does exhaust work so Im assuming it is.

Mandrel benders are very expensive (50k IIRC), so never assume that it's mandrel, even for exhaust only shops. Some places have pre-bent pieces that they weld together, but very few actually have mandrel benders.

I guess it's still worth a shot to see how much a X pipe and 2.5in piping would cost me at a shop. Stock piping is a joke.

Asking for "mandrel-bent" is a crap shoot. All tubing/pipe benders use mandrels (except Bender the robot), you have to ask if the shop can make non-crushed bends. Some can, some can't.

And I'd say an X cross-over provides flow as well as pulse scavenging benefits while an H cross-over would provide little in flow benefit. Disclosure: I'm not an exhaust engineer nor did I sleep at a Holiday Inn Express. However, I did read Scientific Design Of Exhaust And Intake Systems / Edition 3 by Philip H Smith, Phillip H. Smith, John C. Morrison. Not an easy read nor terribly illuminating.
