Hood won't stay open

Title say it all. Whenever I'm snooping around my engine bay the hood closes on my head and won't stay open. Whenever i open it at all it falls back down. I have an 08 coupe if that helps. Lemme know

Replace your hood struts. Good as new. They wear out every few years.

if you are a cheap bastard, you can give them a couple whacks with a rubber mallet to put a slight bend on them enough to hold the hood up - i've seen that on other forums. LOL

i dont think they are very expensive, though.

This thread reminded me to buy struts for my 08. Last weekend, the struts finally gave out after 7 plus years and almost landed on my head. Forget the aftermarket stuff on this "safety" related part, bought OEM for $129 (pair) shipped.

The aftermarket ones cost less than 1/3 of the price of the OEM ones you bought and have lasted me longer than the OEM ones. And still holding strong.

Black Betty: Glad to hear that the aftermarkets have worked out for you. However, from my experience with my previous vehicles, I'm more in agreement with a statement you made from a previous thread copied below. I just want to be one and done with something like replacement hood struts because their expected lifespan should exceed the remaining ownership of my G.

Subject: Hood Support Strut Replacement
Black Betty: "My experience with Nissan hood struts is that the OEM ones ate substantially better than cheaper aftermarket ones. I've bought aftermarket ones in the past for $30 I'd so and they seldom last more than a year, maybe two. FWIW."
