Vibrating/humming noise

I am hearing a vibrating/humming noise when I turn my steering wheel. This happens randomly but more frequently now. It usually happens after driving for about 15 minutes, not right when I start driving. When I turn off the engine and turn it back on in about 5-10 minutes, it will go away.

I am on Eibach springs and have a Stillen intake installed if that helps or makes any difference.

I've added a video so you can see what I am talking about.

Any ideas on what the issue is?

I have a 2013 sport, bone stock, has been doing this for a few months. Been meaning to get by the dealer for it (they don't give out loaners any more and that's a huge pain). I've noticed mine when driving in parking lots between 5-20mph. There's a TSB for the power steering pump reservoir on 2012's. mine is outside the VIN range, but acts as described, which is under hard turning, air can get in the pump. They are supposed to bleed/burp it and install a new tank with a different shape I believe.

My '12 sport has been doing this, I think I'm going to have it checked out today. Any suggestions on what to say in case they claim not to hear it?

No, when they took it to the service area, I noticed that they left it idling for several minutes. I think that gives the pump enough time to clear the air out of the system and make the noise stop. They did check everything out and said they couldn't find any leaks or faults, but as expected they couldn't duplicate the noise.

sounds like the p/s sys is making the noise. why don't u show them the video so they can determine if the tsb in regards to the reservoir applies to your car.

Mine makes this noise after driving for a small while. My suspicion is air is somehow getting into the system. I stopped by the dealer a few months back to have their tech take a quick look. He noticed something wasn't right about the swirl pattern in the reservoir tank at idle.

He said the issue wasn't critical nor did I want to leave the car at that time. I never had any issues with the p/s binding or being difficult to turn. There is a build up of dirt on the reservoir. Could be from fluid vapors coating it, then attracting dirt, or something else.

I actually plan on bringing it in sometime this week to get this addressed. My guess is they'll replace some component of the power steering system.

I have the same thing going on from time to time. Not too big a deal as it doesn't affect handling but I just need to find the time to bring it in (if they will even work on it, low people problems......)

thanks for the input!

i brought my car in today and they replaced the power steering reservoir. They said it was related to the TSB. Hopefully this fixed the issue.

Hmm.. We'll see what they find in mine. Scheduled for thursday. Mine wasn't happening random though. It happened any time the car was driven, while standing still and turning the wheel.

Is your problem fully solved now?

I haven't experienced the issue ever since they replaced it.
