The dealer trade-in value was just $26,959.

I should note that I chose a random NY zip code, so these numbers may vary in other locations, but certainly not by that much.

If you are interested in the car, then definitely low ball the dealer, because the second you drive it off the lot, it's only worth 28,839 MAX! The dealer will spout a bunch of BS about how there is extra value in the car because the car has never been titled, but who gives a @%#&, it certainly ain't worth 8-10 grand!!!

As has been said, there IS a reason this car has not sold, and that alone could explain it.

EDIT: If there is any doubt as to the "real" value of this car, it would be very interesting to see what a bank would allow for financing it. My guess is that they'd never loan more than the KBB numbers, and probably even less.
"....and there's your sign"
Wow, that's definitely significant. I'm sure it's been sitting because they are having a terrible time trying to find someone else (besides themselves) to take that $8k hit on the depreciation. Amazing hubris on their part though.

What's the vin? I'll run an autocheck on it if you want. Autocheck is more reliable than carfax.

CARFAX Vehicle History Report for this 2013 INFINITI G37 AWD: JN1CV6EL5DM981044

Same dealer also lists a new '13 G37X sedan and a new '13 JX35.

Yet for some reason the car OP mentions (VIN above) is in their used inventory listed as new.

Shipped to dealer on 11/03. No action since then. No owners either. Dealer has been stuck with this one for awhile.

Something smells with this car...The dealer has to lay out money every day to keep that car..They didn't forget it was there. Some other thing is happening there.I don't have the knowledge to say, but it doesn't sound right. Do you trust a dealer ? I don't. Especially Infiniti.

I had an incident with my local Infiniti dealer trying to "Get Over" on me for repairs on my 08 G37S coupe with 64,000 on it. I only put 9000 on it so far... Airbag light went on...Dealer says.."needs Module" $700. , will not accept my after market GM warranty from the GM dealer from who I purchased the car......turned out to be a tripped sensor and it turned off and never came on again.Bad battery after 6 months . In the cold it would not crank...turned out to be the WRONG , too small and underpowered battery for the car. Dealer should have replaced it..I did it first.

I would normally agree that something smells with the car too.. but... I bought (Same dealer as this 2013) a 2000 I30t fully loaded in late 2001 that also sat for 18 months... only 40+ miles on it, had sold to someone, deal fell thru and it sat for a long time. It was a decent car until I sold it in 2007? Never any major issues. Back then the dealer was willing to deal.. it was a great deal, full 4yr 60k warranty.

Yes, this is listed in their used inventory. Odd, I even emailed the dealer. I checked with Infiniti they said it VIN qualifies as new 4yr 60k warranty. Dealer keeps going with the line that it's a brand new coupe for very cheap... sorry, not cheap enough.. If they drop to $28k I would take

$28k is a super lowball number, not even a reasonable offer to be honest - $20k off the MSRP for sitting on the lot for 2 years!?!?. This car is worth about $33k retail, and that's considering the car as "used" (Black Book retail value with 50 miles in extra clean condition). The buyer of this car is technically the first owner and gets a full new car warranty, which certainly adds more value to that number. I'd peg a "fair" number at about $35k.

One reason I don't like buying used cars from other makes dealers... When they recondition the car to sell used if they even do... they many times don't use the right parts/ non OEM parts. No warranty or just the base 30 to 90 days. Many times they give a hassle if anything goes wrong even in the 30 to 90 days. If the car had been sold from an Infiniti dealer it would have had the proper OEM sized Nissan battery in it. At least we hope, LOL! If and when I buy used (I prefer new usually) I like certified ones from the dealer. Usually get a decent warranty. I bought my 2010 that way, CPO. It sat for a while, got a great deal on it.

Sorry, I disagree on the $35k. Sorry I don't think $28k is not reasonable. Several others said it was too much $$ here. It's a 2 yr old car, regardless of mileage or never sold. Check Edmunds, KBB, NADA.. the car is worth nearly $20k less than MSRP. They want $36k+. At that price they will keep sitting on it.

Hmmm... so you want to buy a "new" car at a dealership with a full warranty for a "used car trade in valuation". I see flaws in your logic. Black book is the value that is most accurate and the car is worth $33k, end of story. Even KBB values the car over $33k if you plug in the information correctly...

The fair market range goes up to $34,500 and that's considering the car is USED. The car carries more value since the buyer is the FIRST OWNER. $35k is a fair price for this car. $33k is a steal for the car. $28k is a joke.

For what it's worth, I purchased a 2013 G37S in January of 2014. Listed for 52,000+ and was pretty well loaded. It had been sitting for quite awhile but was exactly what I was looking for. They discounted it 10,000. You have to ask yourself are you really in the market for that particular car? If so and cannot find a used one with a much better price and low mileage then you have to decide what is going to cost you more money. Waiting for a used one for the price you want or buy a new one that has factory warranty and is most likely a perfectly fine car. I personally think it is a fair price around the 35,000 mark. I would not sell it for much less. Bottom line is what is it worth to you? I also chose to buy the 2013 as the 2014's were going to bring a lot more at the lot and the difference between the two is nil. I also did not want to go into a newer model that has not been proven such as the next new model(2016?).

Meh, I disagree with you. I think you're looking at it only in a way that supports your argument. The second you title that car and drive it off the lot it is only worth 28K to the new owner, because that's all he could turn around and sell it for, even with the same mileage and same warranties in effect. I don't see how else it is reasonable to look at it.

Of course, any time you buy a new car it looses value immediately, but to not take into account the EXTRAORDINARY value hit that car will take is just plain foolish.

I think its foolish to argue what price he should buy the car for... Its worth as much as he thinks its worth and willing to pay for it. Of course we all will have our opinions and have reasons to back it.

Though a side note: your argument seems to be a bit flawed. Thats saying its never reasonable to buy a new car. I guess one fools lose is your gain :/. But i guess from your view point it does make sense, who doesn't want to get a better deal. Also its only been posted up for sale at the end of january, give it some time.
