If these cars didn't weigh 2 tons these would have been so much better. My IPL weighs roughly 3800 pounds and you can feel how heavy it is every time you take a corner. The AWD's weigh over 4000 pounds so i can only imagine.....

240Z ~2400 pounds.
1967 Hemi GTX land barge, 3,750 pounds.

But, not nearly as safe or efficient.

Am i the only person who would give up a few hundred pounds of safety stuff to have a lighter more fun to drive car? These car makers try so hard to get that 5 star safety rating that they make these new cars weigh so much for their size. For example, the Volvo S60 weighs about 3900 pounds. Have you seen how small a car that is and how tight it is on the inside? The new Taurus weighs about 1000 pounds more than the original Taurus. Yes they will handle a crash better but still. There's nothing more fun to drive than a light weight car. They handle so good.

It's not the auto makers, it's the Government. They are the ones that cut tax breaks for those that do or have X. They are the ones that are making OEMS gave a combined MPG of 30k by 2020 or face finds. They are the reason we can't have a 2400lbs with 450 whp. Give or take.

I understand, but I also "blame" the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. They need to mind their business.

Mummy2, You've probably noticed that even track and drag cars are grannied like never before. You can still buy a 1970-3 240Z and drop a FI small block in it. But, for good or bad, I think most big horsepower cars that meet the new, ever expanding "highway standards", are going to be heavy compared to years past or really expensive with lots of exotic metal and carbon.

It doesn't solve the actual weight issue but running higher soring rates makes it feel as if the car is 500 pounds lighter. I have an IPL as well and doing this made a world of difference in terms of tossability and turn-in response. It doesn't float as much either.

Think about how many average drivers are out on the road, and how many of them crash. Not many people have the knowledge or ability to handle a high powered, lightweight car. The DOT is just applying rules across the board so deaths are minimized. If you really want weight savings and handling at an affordable price, step inside a Lotus or a Toyobaru GT86

The Q60 would have had a better 0-60 if it didn't weigh so much; like the Hellcat making 707HP 650 TQ would have had a better than a 3.6 sec 0-60 if it didnt weigh 4450 lbs. The Hellcat weighs 450 lbs more than the Q60 but its still a whole second faster. Must be the extra 307 HP/300TQ

If gravity didn't have a formula of F = G*((m sub 1*m sub 2)/r^2)maybe the Q60's 0-60 times would be better. My god people ... let it go! You have several choices:

Walk away
Buy and mod
Buy and enjoy what the car is, a luxury GT with better than average performance (key word "average")

The pissing and moaning here has become moronic ...... IMHO

Agreed.

And a lighter Q60 would not necessarily mean better acceleration and handling. You have to have enough weight to maximize traction when you are pushing 350 lbs/ft of torque from 1500 RPMs. Imagine powering out of a turn if you had that much torque in a 2700 lbs RWD car... talk about under-steer and traction control would be active all the time. The Q50 already struggles with traction. The car would otherwise be downright frustrating to drive.

Here is the Jalopnik review. Overall they like it and understand where this car fits in the segment. Yes, they have a couple things wrong like the Brembo Brake comment and the way a few technologies work. But you can tell they arnt expecting an M4 competitor or a GTR.

I Didn't Expect The 2017 Infiniti Q60S Red Sport 400 To Be This Good

ON a side not, I have vins to my parts department on a 3.0t and 3.0t 400 to see if he can track down the part number on the turbos. I want to see if the Turbos are physically different from one another and see who the actual manufacture is. If they are in fact the same turbo, then we can help decipher more tuning and aftermarket options.

It's make sense if they were IHI turbos but I thought I read somewhere that they were Borg Warner units.

The jalopnik article says: "This reduces the intake path by around 60 percent and sharpens throttle response and reduces spool-up time for the tiny but potent twin Honeywell turbos."
