^^^Yeah, you would think they would have been developing both at the same time. I am betting that is what the Germans do for efficiency and all. I can't see why they would wait that damn long either

Also, if they are rolling it out at 14.5 psi stock, then that means the motor should be able to handle in the low 20's fairly reliably. That would result in some pretty big power numbers. The question would then be if the AT would be able to handle it.

Well we know that the transmission can handle 417 lbs of tq if its the one from the 5.7 M/Q70 and that has to still have some give. So if we bump up to 450/400 that should be a good amount of fun while keeping the power linear.

He said " by the way this is the most standard hp in it's class for a non specialty model". He was presenting a 3.0T S, so why would he say that, is this car is a specialty model or not?..if so why tout your best model to be better than regular production sedans? Are they just not close enough in terms of performance to the C63 AMG, M3, RS4 etc..or do they have something on the table for them?

I'm hoping by him saying Non Speciality, this means it won't be price like those specialty cars. I have 6 Red sports coming to the lot on the first production run. We didn't pick them either, they were sent by Infiniti.

Me thinks some of you are looking too deep into words. So he says 'non-specialty', and you take from that there's this secret IPL (or whatever) with a gazillion horsepower waiting to be unleashed. For a likely $5k - $10k premium price. That will be in addition to the THREE versions which will be available. Not saying it won't happen, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Yes, that is what I was thinking. I'm sure the transmission could handle even more as it is newer than the one in the Q70. Should be pretty awesome times ahead!

Does anyone else wonder why an "optical speed sensor" would help the turbo blades spin faster? Best I can tell is that it serves as a tachometer for the turbo. Does it prevent it from over-spooling? The engineer in me thinks that it would have to provide feedback to the ECU which would limit the speed and therefore, boost.
Making simple mods to increase boost on this car may be a little more involved than say on the GT-R.

The optical sensors react more quickly than any pressure sensor could since the signals literally travel at the speed of light. The "tune" can therefore be more precise and maintain more steady boost with fewer boost spikes. It's also far more accurate and can measure intake temps at the same time and adjust fuel/timing accordingly. Just one more tool for engineers to dial in fuel and timing maps while not leaving anything on the table and run the turbos at their maximum efficiency for a given target (but not necessarily maxing them out).
The engine also has an exhaust pressure sensor which is pretty cool.
