Backup Camera Out of Position

Washed my G37s Coupe the other day, nothing special, hand washed with wash mit. When I got in the car and put it in reverse I noticed the rear view camera looked odd. There was a large ridge at the bottom of the screen that I'd never noticed before. I got out and went back to look at the camera. Sure enough, the bottom of the camera housing was pushed back out of position and the ridge I was seeing on the screen was the bottom of the camera mount cut-out in the spoiler.

I felt the camera and housing to see if it felt loose at all and it does not. It seems to be tight and solid, but the bottom is pushed back leaving a gap at the bottom of maybe 1/4" where water etc could get in behind the camera and inside the spoiler.

Anybody ever run into this? I can't imagine how it happened. I'm sure I didn't put any pressure against it when I washed over the camera.

Looking at the schematic for the spoiler and camera, it looks like a pain to access since the spoiler has 2-sided tape around the base that I'm sure will be a PITA to get off.

Anybody ever pull the spoiler or mess with the camera?

Can we get a couple of pictures? One head on, and another from a little bit of an angle.

I checked out my back out camera and it's the same as yours (positioning and screen view). I don't think it's out of position....unless mine is out of position too.

Hummm...that's interesting! The whole thing that started me off on this issue was when I got in the car after washing it that day and noticed the band of white on the bottom of the screen view and didn't remember ever seeing that before. That band of white is the bottom of the spoiler cut out and wouldn't be visible if the camera fit tight in the spoiler cut-out.
Then, after looking at the camera and seeing the gap at the bottom between the camera and the spoiler cut-out, it seemed obvious that the camera was out of place. Now you have me wondering if it hasn't always been that way! Still doesn't seem right though!

Will anyone else check thier camera view and camera mounting and see if it's the same?

Maybe I'm loosing my mind! I did a google search on G37 backup camera images and found that most, if not all show a band of the cars rear end at the bottom of the screen! I guess maybe it's been there the whole time and I just never noticed it before!

Still doesn't seem right to have the gap at the bottom of the camera where water can get into the spoiler!

Yeah, I wonder if the inside of the spoiler is sealed to prevent water from traveling through-out the spoiler.

Funny thing is that I didn't notice the gap with the back-up camera until you brought it up

That's strange if it's by design. Seems a bit unrefined to me. Is it unfinished along that ridge, or is that dirt?

I know the picture quality is bad and I apologize. The pic makes it look like the car is unkept and dirty, but it's actually a very clean and pampered car. The grunge shown in the pic along the bottom of the spoiler/ camera cut out is another thing that made me think the camera housing had gotten pushed in.

The whole thing just seems odd! As was mentioned above, if that's the factory fitment it seems pretty poor!

While researching this issue I did see a You Tube video that showed that the camera view can be adjusted via the onscreen menu. I wonder if the angle could be brought up so 1/4 of the lower screen isn't taken up with a pic of the rear bumper!

So it's grunge/dirt? Not a lack of finish? If it was where there was no paint or clear coat, then it clearly got pushed in. If it's accumulated dirt, then there's no telling for sure.
It looks to me like it's pushed in. I'm surprised there aren't more coupe owners with spoilers chiming in.

Yes, it's grunge/dirt that's built up on the camera cut-out. I've tried to move it back into, what seems like, the proper position, but the camera doesn't budge. I's very securly positioned where it's at!
