How do you like your g37s/x coupes? reviews

Hi guys, new here. I am picking up a g37s soon. I have been checking up on reviews almost everyday. It looks like I am going to pick up a manual if I can get my hands on one, or settle for an X instead of S version.

How do you like your G coupes since the first day, how is the gas mileage, how is the reliability of the vehicle thus far?

What are the pros/cons I should be aware of?

I have an accord coupe v6 7th gen and its been hell owning it. Everything has started to break apart after 100k kms, replacing tranny twice, I am tired of it, and not to mention the fuel economy. I am not sure if somethings wrong with my car but it should be doing good on gas. I fill up half a tank and can get around 250-350kms out of the tank.

Anyways, If I settle for a auto g37s, would you say its still fun to drive? how much does the fuel gauge go down if I make a trip for the day of around 100-120kms? For my accord, If I have half a tank, it would have gone down to the quarter mark by the time I get home.

Thank you, Can't wait to get my G. Hope I can get some good feedback!

You and I come from different previous car backgrounds so take my comments with some leniency. My previous car was a Mustang Cobra that was hardly stock. By comparison, the G is underpowered but more than makes up for it with superior handling, ease of driving, comfort, build quality and luxury.

I would recommend the S version if you go with the standard G. The improved brakes and suspension are pluses if you drive the car hard. Bigger guys might have problems with the sport seat but all in all, the added adjustments available with the premium and sport packages usually minimize these issues (except for the pan width). Even though I own the auto version, I would admit that the 6MT package would yield a more engaging car and I do miss shifting gears; but given my commute, the AT was the clear choice.

Mileage is a toss-up. Its no worse than my V8 mustang on the highway (22-25mpg) and only a little better in the city (14-17mpg). Depending on how and where I drive I can get anywhere from 190 - 245 miles on a tank. In stock form it won't burn the tires off effortlessly as the Mustang would and you really can't steer the car with the throttle like you can the cars with more torque (and no VDC) but for my money, gauging from the Accords I've driven as rental cars, even a five or six year old G beats the driving experience of the Honda

The cost of ownership for the G is probably going to be higher than the Honda. Mine has been a great experience. Only standard maintenance after nearly three years of ownership; but there are horror stores out there of some very expensive repairs required. I don't recall exactly where Consumer Reports ranks the G's reliability but Id guess its probably a little south of the Accord given the Honda's reputation as the "most reliable car" I can sacrifice the loss in reliability for a car with a little soul and some edge to it.

In short, the G is everything I wanted in a car for the price I paid. There are better cars out there but you will pay for the features and added capabilities.

The G has more displacement and 50 more horsepower than the accord. It is notoriously thirsty. Can't really compare the fuel gauges, the G has a 20 gallon tank, the Accord has 17. You will not get any better gas mileage in the G. What you do get is a more entertaining ride with rear, or all wheel drive. Also, it doesn't get much cheaper to own than a Honda, they are almost bulletproof and typically don't require anything but oil changes. P.S. the G takes Premium fuel, so plan for that as well.

You can't buy a G and worry about fuel economy. If that's a real concern this is the wrong car for you, it burns Premium and alot of it. You have to be realistic in your expectations here. My 2008 5AT gets 22 to 24 mpg cruising at 80ish on the highway which I find completely acceptable. MTs and 7ATs might do a little better. This is not an economical car to own and it's not really meant to be. I bought mine used and love it, so far it's very reliable but it only has 38xxx miles on it.

I did a bit of research before I got my xS. Are there cars out there with more power, better handling, better looking, better mileage, better stereo, more room, etc.? Sure, but are they all in one package? How does the total package compare against the competitors? To me, it came out on top.

The G is rated higher on reliability, although I have had problems with mine.

Adding on to what the previous posters said, the G is a good road cruiser, and to me, quite comfortable with the sport seats. I get compliments from people for having a nice looking ride. As an added bonus, you will get ricers who want to take you on.

This forum has a wealth of information from some knowledgeable people, and people who have been there and done that. If you cruise through the posts, there are things you can do to enhance the power, looks, and overall experience of driving the G.

I am on my 3rd G; had a G35, then moved to a 2009 G37s and now have a 2013 G37s, all coupes, all red (my wife likes red).

I have been a car guy for over 30 years and have had some pretty exotic stuff, but I think the G coupe is a great car, especially for the money.

It's definitely fun to drive; fairly quick, handles nicely, and rides nice without being too cushy. Decent sound system and all the right toys: memory seats, push-button ignition, LED lights, back-up camera, etc...

I agree that the S is the only way to go, especially after reading all the posts here from non-S owners wanting to upgrade their brakes and suspensions and what-not.

Never had a problem with any of them and get plenty of compliments, too.

Nice car, my '12 G37x. Interior is a little close for me(5/10 and a half, 194#). The traded Genesis Coupe seemed roomier. Much better interior materials!
the ride is surprisingly refined. The Genny's ride was firm....very firm, but it was billed as a sports car. The G37's ride hits the sweet spot for me...Goldilocks.

I have a 11 xs coupe and I would say the only thing it doesn't have is a manual gear box. But when I upped the line pressure with a tune on the transmission, it shifts quick enough in manual mode! I love it, and have modded the crap out of it and never worry. The warranty is great with it and love the service people.

I have an 08 G37S, 6MT with 80k and it runs flawlessly. Considering so, I just replaced all four tires this week (Falken Aventis = Amazing), and made an apt to get my rims re surfaced/painted next week. Other then the noisy clutch/throw out bearing, I have no complaints!

I have a 2011 G37xS coupe that I bought used this year (CPO). I'm reminded of how much I like driving it every time I get back in it after driving a different car (ex. rental car) for a few days.

To be honest though, I have had a number of issues with the car in the short 4 or 5 months I've owned it, which has been a bit disheartening.
1. I had the well known transmission lag issue, but only from 20-25 mph. This got fixed by the TCU update from a prior TSB.
2. The car started to develop worsening and variable idle any time it was stopped while still in drive. I tried having the throttle bodies cleaned, etc, to no avail. The Infiniti dealership ended up diagnosing the issue as a bad ECU and replaced the entire unit. So far, so good.
3. A couple of weeks ago the car started to sporadically turn off right after turning on. This was after driving it during the same morning in all instances, so it was rather random. This was diagnosed as an issue with feedback from the fob, so that was replaced and now that issue seems to have gone away.
4. The center console spring that forces the lid up stopped working.
5. Now that I'm looking at winter tires, I just realized yesterday that the new tires on the car aren't staggered. Not the end of the world, but still...wtf.

I bought the car from an of state dealership, so I don't get to whine to them too much. However, the local dealership has generally been great and all of the above fixes were addressed under the warranty.

With all that being said, I completely agree with CoolBreeze. The reason I bought the car is because it had the best combination of everything I wanted. I get compliments on the car all the time.

Only the RWD S model has staggered wheels. The base Journey and AWD models (including S package) have the same size wheels. This information is available on Infiniti website.

This being true, but it doesn't mean you cant go staggered. It wont effect anything as long as you don't go crazy offsets

The G is just a fun car to drive. My suggestion would be to get a manual and not an auto, but that I guess depends on where you live and whats your daily commute etc. If I was in stop and go traffic everyday and long commute then I would probably not get this car. If you are worried about gas mileage then this is not the car for you, reliability wise my experience has been excellent. With all that said, its a blast of a car to drive, handling, cornering, ergonomic seats, tons of features, good looks and a fair price, make this an engaging daily driver.

Thanks for pointing this out! I actually referenced the Infiniti site but misread it in the misaligned chart I was looking at.

I have the same car with approximately the same mileage. Great car, just put Yoko's on all 4 corners. We get some snow, so I had to go with a all weather tire. I also installed Stop tech slotted Cryo rotors and Hawk HPS brake pads. I used to get some judder when I braked, now nothing. Quiet, no vibration and it stops great. You can't go wrong with the S, it's a fine car.
