Hey guys
I had the dealership do a drain and fill on a 7at yesterday. 39k.. anyways now when i do a semi hard brake and get going again the car revs up alittle and then it catches. sometimes its violet if the brake is hard.. any ideas before i go to the dealership tommorow?

Happens to mine too and had that since the car was new. That's just how the car is. You brake hard and then gas and the RPM just flies wildly until it gets "caught". I mean if you think about it, if you accelerate from a hard braking, the car's downshifting fast and you just surprise it with a hard press. Sounds normal to me.

It's your engine rev matching the rotational speed of your transmission when it downshifts. It is perfectly normal under hard braking situations. Putting your car into DS Mode will make it happen more frequently. Just FYI, driving/rolling down a slope sometimes will do that too. But it shouldn't be "violent" when it downshifts though. It might be a bit less smooth but shouldn't be too harsh.

My bad. It's when I come to a full stop.. I had the tranny update the first month I had it. When I start to go again it feels like I dumped the clutch on a manual car.. The slip light goes on.. It happens if I brake hard to a stop. And when I get going it takes a second to catch. And there is a loud clunk.

What youre describing almost sounds like clutch pack slip or a bad torque converter. An auto box should not have clunking other than moving from reverse into 1st gear while the car is still moving backwards.

The rev matching of downshifts is really only noticeable for me under hard braking in DS mode. OP's issue doesn't sound related. No one has mentioned yet that the AT transmission fluid is a one time fill, and does not appear in any recommended maintenance interval that goes through 120K miles. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Hopefully the dealer didn't recommend that service, if so, they kind of took you for a ride - especially at 39k miles.

Good luck, hopefully they get everything running how it should be and don't brush off your problem.

^^^ that's what I thought too. A closed system shouldn't require attention at 39k. Op you better take it back and ask about your problem. Be sure to ask for a tech to ride along and not just drop it off. Or else they will just write your concern as normal or unable to replicate. Good luck and keep us updated

Well I can repeat it easily. I can go 5mph and brake hard and try to go again. And it takes a second to catch... Reason why I did it was 30k was recommended to do it so since it's still under warranty I just did it so they can't tell me I neglected it.. But when I saw them drain it the fluid was black and not red.. It also ran alot better except for this problem. I think the guy just didn't fill it up all the way. So when I brake the fluid moves forward and starves it..

Never try to fix anything that isn't broke.
My 74 Mazda RX4 was my last auto transmission vehicle and had it for almost 150k miles.
Never changed the transmission fluid and it ran fine till the day I sold it 17 years later.

At first the tech said it was normal. We drove another one didn't do it.. He was puzzled so I gotta bring it in Tuesday they have to talk to the engineers but.. Sounds like the torque converter is causing it to not catch quick... All they did was drain and fill not hooked up to any machines. And they didn't even have the special tool.. Wtf!
