Hi guys! I have the same issue like BB, but my car is an EX35 AWD Journey with 5 speed AT with VQ35HR @76k miles. I was quoted $2,800 to fix it. My car is still under Elite extended warranty so they will fix it for free. (Well, I have $50 deductible)
One of our EX35 forum members also had his EX35 fixed with the same issue, but his water pump was also replaced since they were going in there anyway. How would I persuade them to change my water pump and other parts that normally wont last beyond 100k miles?
My car is still under Elite warranty next year around Sept. I might trade the car soon when I see a good deal....

I really doubt they will replace a component if it is still working just because it might go out. If you really want the water pump replaced they might charge you for the part and some labor since they are going in there anyways....but hey, never hurts to ask. The worst thing is they say "no"

If you want a new water pump, buy a new water pump from their dealership and have them install it instead of the original one. They aren't going to just replace a functional part for free under warranty because you want them to. It's not reasonable to expect that. However, you shouldn't have to pay for any extra labor if they have t r/r it anyway for the job
Why are you concerned about the water pump? I'm not aware of there being any problem with failures of that part. At 76K miles you should be spending money on replacing timing parts if anything. That's more likely to be something that has more wear and the amount of labor to go back and replace later would be very expensive.

This topic has come up in a different thread and it has led me to look into it a little bit. Here is what I ahve found:
I traced the part number of the "revised" gasket that was torn down in this thread, part # 13533-JK21B and the application for that part was the EX35 and FX35 and the VQ35HR engine. It's not a new part at all. I am very confused now.
It does appear that the timing cover and gasket set has gone through several revisions though throughout the years. (13035+A includes the gaskets)
This makes me feel like anyone with a build date in 2012+ appears to be safe. It's likely that only one of these part numbers and build date ranges has the defective gaskets and I'm sure we have enough data here to narrow it down.
Thoughts?

My P0011 code turned out to be the gaskets as well. But, I took it to a Nissan dealer and they reached the gaskets with the new revised ones, installed my new south bend clutch and flywheel along with my z speed slave, replaced all my leaking valve cover gaskets with the new revised ones, installed my new tranny mount and new CSF 3 row radiator for 2800 out the door. Plus some other misc gaskets here and there and my new polished timing covers. So not complaining that much.,

taking in my car tomorrow to get a warranty inspection before my powertrain runs out next month (currently 09 with 63k miles). going to ask my service advisor if they can possibly take care of this gasket as preventative maintenance and split the cost or even cover it under warranty...
here's to wishful thinking.....

Yeah reading about all these stories has gotten me so anxious that I was going to sell my car, 09 g37s 63k. However, there is no other car. I test drove many cars and my G is superior to them all. I'm in the Houston area and so far all the Nissan dealers just simply say "we don't do that here, you need to go to infiniti", and all the local shops that specialize in Nissan/Infiniti engines either say they've never done/seen/heard of this before, or laugh and say I'll never experience this issue and that everything on the forums is just a bunch of hot air. For those of you paying $1200, $1500, $2000, and heck, even $3000 I envy you somewhat because infiniti quoted me for $4200. I suppose I can call other dealers and see if it varies. I have not experienced any problems or codes yet though, I don't even know if my OP is low, so I guess I'm going to continue to get quotes because those gasket are bound to go whether tomorrow or 5 years from now. I think my best bet is to try to find a 2013 g37s to trade for when I can find one. It'll be in factory warranty and supposedly has the updated parts.
I think the reason that this is unheard of is because a lot of times this happens under warranty, so it's not a big deal to the driver getting a free fix, and the local shops don't get to see this because warranty work is done at the dealer, but now that 08's and 09's are out of warranty, I think they're going to start to learn how to do this.
