I'm close to pulling trigger on some 19" staggered Work Emotion CR ultimate wheels in matte bronze. What do you guys think of of bronze wheels on graphite IPL. Seems kinda wild. I think I like it. Thoughts?
Sorry to hear... The KW problem is an easy DYI fix. Those Work Emotion CR Ultimate wheels will look amazing on graphite! Much lighter and better choice over the Vossen's.

IPL Rims

I have been searching for a similar thread to this, I also have an IPL (2012) that has been diagnosed with bent rims. I strongly feel this is a design flaw with these rims, I haven't hit any potholes or any noticeable bumps yet the rims are bent as hell apparently and the car is driving like absolute garbage...literally want to trade it in at this point it's so bad.

To make matters worse, I have the full tire and rim coverage that I purchased with the vehicle, and this is the second time in a year I have had to make a claim on it and each time they attempted to reject the coverage. First time I had a blow out driving on the highway, didn't hit anything just tire blew out. Infiniti said the tire blow out pattern did not match the 'standard' patterns and therefore would not be covered by the protection plan...I of course screamed bloody murder, made several enemies at the dealorship and low and behold...they covered it finally, no charge, what would have been 400$ out of pocket for a tire that should have been covered with full protection on a brand new car with <10,000 miles.

Fast forward 1 month from the new tire situation and the car is driving in a manner I can only describe as 'wonky', vibrations, unstable at speed etc...I bring it in to the dealor and they say two rims are bent, the sales person contacts the insurance for the tire/rim protection that they force fed me at sales time and again they don't want to pay, the salesman actually sits me down and says he has to 'interview' me for the insurance company as to 'how this happened' and he takes on this fatherly "holier than thou' attitude with me, which of course infuriated me to no end...I clearly did not know HOW it happened, all I know is the car is driving like garbage and it has <10,000 miles...Infiniti service is just terrible, this is my second and last Infiniti.

Waiting on an apppointment to have the rims straightened, however I am leery as this involves heating up the rim to reshape them, most likely it won't work and I will be looking at brand new rims...sigh.

Uhh I would ask for new rims. Reshape a piece of forged metal? I think not. They can use their insurance to buy you new wheels, which is why they have it.

I bought a set of used IPL wheels 2 month ago, and found out there was one bent rim. Seller refund the money for that one, but he did mention his car has never hit on anything just the curb rushes. I guess the IPL wheel has defects?? I have checked all four wheels before I put on my car. So far it has not problem at all.

Wow, I always thought the IPL wheels would be a good upgrade in the looks department (x2 as my stock wheels are rashed to shreds :'( ) but this makes me think finding a perfect set will be impossible. Even if I do, its probably not worth it.

This is not a good practice with aluminum; I would demand new rims.

You can always sell the 19" tires after you get 20's. If they are still new you can get 35%-50% of your money back. It's better than taking a total bath.

IPL wheels are nice. No doubt… but when you go buy a used set, you might want to check them first or have the seller to make sure none of those bad boys are not bent.

I never had any issues with my IPL rims. I just thought I would chime in.

Thanks for the replies

Thanks for the replies, I am in the northeast so our roads are fairly terrible, especially in the winter time, it's pot hole city, so even if you don't take a direct hit sometimes it;s just the cumulative effect over time.

Brought it in today for the wheel-straightening and I asked them right up front, "if this doesn't work (and it very well may not), what is the next course of action?" I.E New Rims? They were very evasive on this topic and just said that the vendor would have to assess the degree to which they are bent and 'it depends'.

So my fingers are crossed, will update once the work has been completed and I can take it for a test drive. It's currently driving like the 'Barney-Rubble-Mobile' so any improvement at this point is welcome...

I had 2 G37Sport 19's straightened like 2 months after I bought my car. I never hit anything either. Had the wheel and tire warranty. Haven't had a problem since. They'll be able to re-shape them or have them replaced.

Our sport wheels are cast not forged, very different.

Exactly, and cast metal is not known for malleability...

Bought new wheels today for my IPL! I went 19" Rays gramlights 57x in matte gunmetal. They are 9.5 by 10.5 +35 all around. I also ordered a pair of 275/35 Potenzas for the rear and my current rear 245/40 will move to the front. The rear at +35 on 10.5 wheel is tad aggressive for my liking, but that's all they had in Cali. +43 would have had to come from Japan the guy said and I didn't want to wait. I'll try to tuck it w/ some camber. Wheels should be here in a week. Can't wait to drive the car w/o all the vibration. My car rides like a friggin massage chair right now.

Back at the dealorship..

So the wheels were straightened last week, they did a full alignment and handed it back and told me 'it's all set', of course not one shred of actual detail given on the extent of wheel damage or if they thought it went 'well' as far as re-shaping goes.

I took the car and in driving it over the weekend I find it to be 'marginally better' noticeable vibrations have ceased however car STILL feels unstable at highway speed and in changing lanes and cornering, also I noticed the traction control light comes on during non-agressive acceleration at times...could this be a wheel bearing issue perhaps?

Anyway I brought it back in today and they are currently out road-testing it...they keep bouncing me between different service people and I can tell they are annoyed with me but christ, I drove this thing off the lot brand new and it still has <10,000 miles, am I wrong to want it to drive normally again...seemlingly so if you ask Infiniti Service sigh!

More to come...
