What is the plastic part I found in glove compartment?

I just bought a used 2011 G37 for my wife to supplement my FX35. I found this plastic part in the glove compartment and can't figure out what it is or where it goes. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

Looks like something related to the sunglasses holder?

I believe it's the insert in the back part of the cupholder, should clip in.

Perfect, because I drive using the force instead of my eyes anyway. At least that's what I tell the cops when I get pulled over.

OK, so it's a cup holder insert. For smaller cups? No idea why it would be needed since the flap in the cupholder keeps cups secure.

It goes at the "back" of the cupholder, slips in vertically (you should see some small guides).

For taller cups, go around a corner an hit the throttle, it's easy to send the cup flying into the passenger door.

It looks to be for the cup holder.

I hate using this thing. Often, the console lid gets stuck when you try to push it down with this in, or it gets stuck down trying to get it open with it in. i've been meaning to ask if others have the same issue.

Mine is actually broken now, one day I was going to press it open, it got stuck so i pushed it down again and I guess the spring popped out.. Now it just sits there...
