Securing a mattress to the G

Im moving a mattress this weekend. The ride is only about 5 minutes. Im planning on strapping the mattress onto my roof. I was going to go through the windows and the front tow hook to secure it; but I still need a place to tie the rope to in the rear. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Disclaimer, this is just an off the cuff idea.

1. Use a rope to secure the back of the mattress to the hook that the trunk normally latches in to.
2. this would leave the trunk free to rise, so use a shorter piece of rope to tie the latch on the trunk down to the same hook that it would normally latch on to.

I would go rent a truck from home depot for $20/hr rather than risking to scratch the G and should save you a lot of time. Good luck.

Ditto. Or pester a buddy with a pickup and buy him beer.

If buying new, pay the $25 delivery fee.

I tried this once when I was younger and it was a nightmare over 30mph as the mattress acts like a huge sail and refuses to stay in place.

I should mention that yes, I agree with renting/borrowing a truck. I'm assuming that he thought of that already, and is asking just to see about possible scenarios.

Mattress strapped to a Porsche is classic! It's amazing how weak even the strongest rope seems when you have that thing strapped to your car and the wind is trying to rip it off. It's like being moored in hurricane!

No sure for stupid

Go into your room.. strip your mattress and then do a running jump onto it without a shirt on. How does that feel. Now imagine that happening to the paint on your room again and again. The rope will also vibrate back and forth like a string instrument scratching over and over again. Please pay the 20 for a truck. The polishing agent alone will cost you almost that much not including the time to get the scratches out.

lol this reminds me of the time I strapped a 7 foot mirror to the roof of my wife's BMW and made the 2 mile ride home at 30 mph clutching the frame of the mirror.

If you decide to do this rather than spending the $20-30 to just rent a pickup truck, please post photos of it for our amusement. Including any mishaps.

Agreed. Spend the $30 to save yourself hundreds from repairs later.
