New G37s owner, quick question

2008 G37s, just purchased recently. Any one know what this slot is(pictured) in the lower grill mesh? Seems to be sealed in the back. Also, what are the AFS and VDC buttons are for?

Thanks!

AFS is your adaptive front lighting system. Your headlight projectors will pivot along in the direction you turn your steering your wheel, especially useful to light corners while turning.

Google is your friend. I don't know how to explain VDC I'm a noob myself so I'll just quote G35Princess. Oh and welcome to the club!

"VDC= Vehical Dynamic Control.

A sudden change in surface consistency can affect your car's stability during evasive driving. Vehicle Dynamic Control* uses various sensors to help determine your steered path and keep you in control. If your vehicle begins to understeer (plow forward) or oversteer (fishtail), VDC applies appropriate brake pressure to individual wheels and/or reduces engine output to help keep your vehicle on its steered path.

*Infiniti VDC system is designed to help improve driving stability, but does not prevent accidents due to abrupt steering or by careless or dangerous driving techniques. Always drive safely.
(Got that off infiniti site for you)

Some people like it off cuz they want to have control over their car. I like to keep mines on..especially during slick rain, etc...
Hope that helps."

AFS is your adaptive front lighting system, I believe that's the correct words, anyways it's so the headlight projectors have a motor and move with the movement of your steering wheel, I have it and its a sweet feature specially on dark unknown roads with tons of twists, it lights up the area you are headed towards so easier to see certain parts when you turn. The switch is only to turn it off, it is by default always on and same with VDC it is by default always on, unless you mod it, if you turn VDC off you will not have traction and your wheels will slip, fun to do once In a while but unsafe in snow or bad weather where conditions are slippery. Without it these cars would go all over the place in slippery roads specially when snowing, and they are rear wheel drive which makes it harder to control in snow

Edit: The switch is a rocker for AFS, so you can leave it off if you want

No problem but what everyone in this thread is teaching you is to search or red your manual, if you search on this forum or on google or read your manual you will have answers to all your questions, new people join everyday with FAQs, so they are just teaching you the manners on forums and only to post of a question that you could not find answer to even after using all te resources

I'm so bummed; I just picked up a new S coupe that I thought was loaded but it doesn't have AFS.

Did they stop offering it..?

Very rare cars have it, as it is a expensive Tech package that most buyers don't get

The slot in the grill is for intelligent cruise control which is also part of the tech package, the adaptive front lighting system (AFS) you can't tell by simply looking, when u drive or turn steering you will see it
