Loose fuel cap: fix?

Loose fuel cap: fix?
My "loose fuel cap" light came on. I tried tightening it; it wasn't loose. I took it all the way off. A couple of times. Nothing.
I looked in the owners manual and it said that if it didn't clear up, in a few days the loose fuel light would go out and be replaced with the "check engine soon" light. Amazingly-that's exactly what happened!!
Anyone know what can be done to fix it? I took it to the dealer; they wanted to keep it for 4 days to do an estimate, and then would not be able to fix it for 2 to 3 months. So I've got 2-3 months to find another solution!!!
Regards

One Buy another Cap?
Two...if under Warranty have the Dealership replace...?
Three Keep it for 4 days for a Loose Cap with a Bad Seal?
Not Fix it for 2-3 months? Mechanics on Strike?
Never seen nor heard a Dealership to take 4 days to fix or 2-3 months to fix something so simple...
I'd go elsewhere

Try a new gas cap first. Take it to AutoZone or something similar and get them to do the free OBD. They aren't exactly known for reading codes correctly, but every once in a while they get one right
If that doesn't get the light to turn off in a few days/couple hundred miles, take it to an actual mechanic to get them to read the codes (probably have to pay them). If the code is anything other than gas cap, they'll want to do the full EVAP diagnostics. EVAP doesn't mean anything for the drivability of your car, just the ability to pass an emissions test.
I just had to go through this about 2 months ago with my old car (Lexus ES300). AutoZone read the code as gas cap, but it was a large leak in the EVAP that was caused by an unplugged solenoid from when they replaced my O2 sensor (a whole lot of nothing).
There's no reason that a Check Engine light that seems to most likely be caused by a gas cap needs to have anything done to it that will take 4 days and an estimate. That's insane.

But I agree, just order a new cap and replace it if you know that's the issue.

Gas caps go bad all the time, just replace it and all should be well, it doesn't cost much at all to do this.
I have never had Autozone read a code wrong, sometimes they don't convert the code correctly. I always have them give me the code so I can double check it before spending money.

Thanks! I think I'll order a cap and replace it; that can't hurt (too much). If it doesn't go away... I'll worry about that if it happens.
Things are different here in Middle East than elsewhere. It's more like the wild west; you're sort of on your own. Maybe you have heard the old stories about exotic cars like Ferraris left on the side of the road, abandoned, for minor problems. That no longer happens; but I understand why. In those days, if anything broke, that was really the only option one had.
Thanks for the input and regards
