M Series Shift Knob Mod

M Series Shift **** Mod
For those of you that want to swap the shift **** for the M-series one but don't like the way that the stock boot collar doesn't match the bottom of the M shift **** and is too narrow, there's a cheap solution ...
The M35 shift boot / center console is the same as the M37. Unlike the M37, which the boot is bundled with the center console and is not parted separately, the M35 shift boot and components can be parted and are sold individually as well.
The parts and numbers need are:
34929M - COVER-CONTROL LEVER 34929EG000 (shift collar) - $7.00 est
34929M - PIN-LOCK 34126EG000 (fastener for shift collar to boot) - $2.50 est
<table cellspacing="0" width="676"><tbody><tr><td style="font-size:16px;font-weight:bold;" align="left" width="90">
</td><td width="260">
</td></tr></tbody></table>
You will have to disassemble the center console, invert the boot, and clip the zip tie to remove the oem shift collar.
You can then install the new shift collar in reverse order onto the oem boot and secure it using the pin lock (or even a zip lock). Essentially you only need to buy the "cover-control lever" but the "pin" is recommended.
For only about $10 you can have an oem looking M series shift **** thanks to the matching shift collar. I haven't done the upgrade yet. When my shift **** begins to get cruddy or scratched, then the new M series one will replace it.
I wouldn't replace it with the M shift know if I couldn't find the M shift collar for cheap because it just doesn't look right on top of the G shift collar.
I happened to find this via google and confirmed that the M37/M56 and M35/M45 shift boot assemblies are the same. For whatever reason, Infiniti has the M35/45 shift collar parted individually so you can buy it separately from the center console unlike the M37/56.

Nice thread, I assume this applies to Sedans too.
OP, If you don't mind could you post the same thread in the DIY folder.
Thanks
