Buy the compressor but ultimately yes the shop will need to install it to remove the freon and replace it once its installed... if its all out then thats a different story... not a hard change... its the Freon you have to worry about ...

Yes its Empty ... especially after bustin a hose... ouch... didn't mess up any threds? Hope not...
Replace the hose make sure you use Teflon tape and tighten nicely .. do not over tighten... you can strip it since its fine threds... usually a cause of breaking the hose... use the search function for a DIY... I've changed my Jeep and Trucks AC... simple... take it to the shop if your not sure on replacing that hose... they wouldn't charge much...

I'd highly recommend it... they can vacuum the lines, check for leaks and refill... simple... doing it on your own... not with a new compressor... doing a added Charge yes... New one no...

And yes its fine to install it... they can double check your work... insert a dye to see if any leaks on the parts installed etc ...

I have never heard of using teflon tape on a/c connections. There are no threads on the a/c lines. They are all connected by Garter spring or secured using a bolt. The connections all have an O rings on them. I would recommend replacing the O rings with new ones.

Before charging the a/c system, you need to evacuate all the air from the lines using a vacuum. This would also allow you to check for leaks. A sealed system is able to maintain a good vacuum overnight when the vacuum pump is turned off.

The high pressure hose was the hose with the leak... my buddy and i replaced it pretty easily but when i brought to the shop to recharge they said my compressor was leaking and it needed be replaced.... we were under the impression changing the compressor was a difficult job but ... seems like its not .. a DIY yourself or video would be awesome ... but i cant find anything ..

Yes there were no threads on the hose we replaced only garter springs and a bolt ..
