Cross-country trip in my 2011 IPL...

Hi,
I'm planning a cross-country road trip in my 2011 IPL...

I originally was thinking of doing the trip in a 2012 Grand Sport Corvette but it would have meant getting rid of the IPL , after keeping and driving the a 2012 Grand Sport Corvette for almost a week I decide to return it to the dealer and stick with my baby the IPL...

I'll be driving my IPL from Stroudsburg PA, to San Francisco CA , I'll be taking the northern route on the way to CA and then the southern route Austin Texas , New Orleans on the way back and then on to Key West before heading back north to PA through the northeast coast shore line ...

I'm retired , single , if it takes me a year or more so be it , as long as I can get to a ATM machine I'm good and I'll buy what I need along the way !

I'm currently getting my 2011 G37 IPL with only 11,000 miles on it called "Orpheus" that the name of my car (vanity tags) ready for the journey ..

I will be installing before I depart these mods:

1. Stillen Gen 3 long tube intakes ...
2. Fast Intentions High flow cats and carbon fiber round cat back...
3.Michlin Pilot Sport PS2 tires...
4. Escort Laser Shifters ZR4...
5. Update Nav disk set from Infiniti...
6. Siriusx weather and traffic ...

I will me posting pictures here from my lap top along the way ...

Sorry for the long story...Thanks for reading ...

I'm a baby boomer , I grew up with Route 66 on TV, to me the Corvette is an American icon and a cult classic vehicle in many ways ...

That being said , for my cross country road trip I knew I would be on the roads for long periods of hours driving for days at a time and weeks on the road , I also felt I wanted some of the best technology offered in my car as a companion if you will to keep on track with the latest information on weather road and traffic ...

The Corvette was a head turner for sure ,that being said , what it only seem to offer, was a quick 0 to 60 time and great looks ...I did however like the duel exhaust , It was 15 mpg to 19 mpg on the IPL the handling and suspension of the IPL was better all around in my opinion ... The Corvette interior did not feel as comfortable as the IPL the interior looked and felt cheap the Nav was dated somthing out of the 60's compared to Infiniti's intuitive Nav one of the best OEM Navs out there in opinion... The 2012 Grand Sport I drove was an automatic with paddle shifters , no drive sports or revs matching on stick just paddles on the steering column, it did have good trunk space due to having no spare on board (Run Flat tires)...

The IPL is a heavier car, and it's not a two seater that's my biggest complaint , that being said this car can run as is give it enough road and it will blow the doors of most stock six on the road... It really comes alive at top end with bolt on mods I figure I'll be close to higher end of the 300 hp range , closer to 400 hp range, around 368 hp at the wheels , closer to 0 to 60 time of a NISMO for a six that's not bad for a car this size and weight , this car handles well and stays planted at high speeds , can really take the G's on curves ...

Then there was the money $20,000.00 to $30,000.00 thousand down payment on a 2013 Corvette GS 3LT made it even less appealing...
That being said , on the 2014 Corvette ,GM I believe is addressing most of this issues , I see the Corvette more of a muscle car than a true sports car, a weekend summer car to take to car shows , I have not ruled out one day owning one till then I keep my $30,000.00 in my pocket and enjoy my IPL ...

400 whp??? You sure about that one? And it may be a bit late at 11,000 mi but adding a clear bra might be something else to consider.

Nick,
I'm saying that it will be closer "to" the 400 hp range than the 300 hp range not in the 400 hp range !

From Fast Intentions...
"An increased average of nearly 20 RWH and over 17 LBS of torque in conjunction with our G37 cat back exhaust system."

348 hp @ 7,400 rpm , 276 lb-ft @ 5,200 rpm
+ 20 hp +17
368 hp @ 7,400 rpm 293 lb-ft @ 5,200 rpm

Stillen is boasting 18.5 at the rear wheels with its Gen 3 intake ...

I know these numbers may not add up to the numbers they say you'll get at the wheels in any particular car and some bolt on's may cancel out other bolt on's even which ones are put on first could change the numbers...

Having a car Dyno tested can give a good approximation of these figures , that being said the bolt on's I mentioned will give this car a good jump in performance, was my point...

P.S. Forgot to mention got the bra and tint already, I'm debating doing the entire hood with 3M? Thanks...

348 hp @7,400 rpm is at the crank, not the wheels. Glad you got the bra, after that trip it would be hard to tell the bugs from the rock chips.

Thanks for the heads up, appreciated it !
Do you know if anyone who has posted real hard Dyno numbers with full bolt ons for the IPL at the wheels ?

For a cross country trip, I would not install after market part like air intake or cat. Reliability and comfort is name of the game for an enjoyable trip.
