Where did you mount your radar?

I am going to install my radar out of my old car into my new G and wanted to see where you coupe guys mounted yours!

Anyone doing anything special to hide it? Theft is for sure a concern in Chicago as my old car was broken into and it was the only thing stolen. Thank you in advance!

-Mike

Right under the rear view mirror. Half the people that sit in my car can't even see it.

I did built in with the STI-R plus and put the display in the rear view mirror.

With the convertible, I leave the top down and didn't want the temptation to be out there.
I have the blendmount under the mirror on the JX with the 9500xi and on the M I have the sti-r driver just on the windshield.

Under rear view mirror with blendmount and Stealth Mirror Cord hard wired to the rear view mirror powering the Escort 8500 x50. If you are able and want Escort Live, you can still get live cord just run from fuse box and up pillar and under front part of headliner. Just have to pull back cover and tuck wire.

I put mine V1 right above the rear view mirror on the passenger side. You cant see it from head on but i assume if a thief was looking in a side window he could see it

Same above the mirror on the driver side ...hidden by the tint strip. My car was broken into and they couldn't even see the V1 so its the perfect spot for it IMO

Escort 9500ix
Escort SuperCup
Stealth Mirror cord wired to mirror
Mounted right under the rearview mirror.

Im hesitant to mount the detector behind the tint strip as I feel that would hinder the performance of the detector. Therefore, my detector is mounted right under where the tint strip is.

I had the Escort 9500ci installed in my G. The small unit that controls all the settings is in the spot where the cig lighter and ash tray is so I can close that little door and it's out of sight, also the visual warning is the rear view mirror that comes on when the unit picks up a signal and shows what band and strengh of the signal. There's a speaker hidden under the dash that calls out either what radar band it's picking up or if I'm approaching a speed trap. This thing picks up fixed radar signals from store auto open doors and such and if you go past these locations 3 times it stores them in it's memory so your not bothered by them every time you drive past them. If police try to hide near these store signals the detector picks them up even if they're 20 feet away from them and lets you know about them.
I don't feel any detector is perfect and can protect you from all radar systems, using commen sense is always your best defence against tickets.

i want to put mine upside down on the sun shade. I never flip it down. mine has the smart plug with light and button though so i may need to think something up for hard wiring like an rj-11 connector extension.

That is a Redline Radar Detector. I have had it mounted for about a year now, and its been great. Doesn't get loose and only requires tightening a few times a month, if that. Then you can hardwire it to the fuse box by running the cable through the liner as you see with my set-up.

This is the link to the eBay listing http://www.ebay.com/itm/MirrorMount-Escort-Passport-8500-X50-9500iX-Redline-Radar-Detector-Mirror-Mount-/190826978282?pt=US_Radar_Laser_Detectors&hash=item2c6e2c9bea&vxp=mtr

Some info I found while researching radar and laser detectors last year.

Radar Detector Users Guide | RadarDetector.org
A laser beam shot at 500 feet is only 18″ wide when it hits your vehicle. Police target either the front license plate or the headlamps. If the radar detector is mounted in the center of the windshield, it will be too high to receive any of the “splatter” that may indicate you are being targeted by a police laser gun.
