Goodbye Clean Title....
Yesterday I left school in Austin (University of Texas) and was heading to Dallas via I-35. While going with the flow of traffic down a narrow two-lane road, a driver four cars ahead slammed his brakes, and I was unfortunately caught in the pile up....
I also received a small tap from the back, and theres a straight line dented from top to bottom on the rear bumper.

That sucks big time man. That happened to me once but I avoided the hitting the car in front but the Buick the size if a boat couldn't stop and hit me

Thank you all for the sympathy, it was hard seeing my car look like that. And yes, everyone is ok. I'm 22 years old and thats the first accident I've had. As such, I'm not sure how the insurance thing will work. I assume an adjuster comes out, looks at the damage and gives a budget to the shop (I had it taken to Stuart's Paint and Body), and the shop specialists purchase the necessary parts.
Is it actually possible for me to get, for instance, a 2011 sport bumper instead of the 2008 through insurance?

Glad you came out unharmed. That's all that matters.
To answer your question, yes. Most shops should let you upgrade your bumpers, since it's just an OEM part. If there's a premium, you'll just have to pay out of pocket for that. I've gone through insurance in upgrading a couple items - deer destroyed my front end, upgraded to aero front; got side swiped in a parking lot, upgraded to aero sides.
On a side note, did anyone else notice that the styrofoam padding behind the bumper looks like teeth now that it's sticking out?
