selling 350z for g37

I've attempted to do searches on here and google, and have not found exactly the answer I'm seeking. I don't mean to post something redundant, and if another thread elsewhere would answer my question, please direct me.

I have owned a 350z for 7 years, one base manual which was was totalled when I was t-boned, another touring edition automatic, both 2006 model year, which I know have slightly different engines.

I want a g37 coupe, and it must have the sport package. I'm just concerned with how the handling will compare to a 350z. I realize it is a softer car intended for more luxury purposes. I need a backseat but want a car that will still be a great handling 2 door coupe and want the reliability of the nissan inifiniti brand. Will the g37 coupe with sport package be a good choice for me?

Thanks for any info.

We can't tell you if it's the right car. Why don't you go test drive one and see if you like it? The sports package that comes with the sports suspension is quite rough/stiff. I use to have a 350z as well and love the g37 way more.

I sold my 350Z after 6 years of ownership for a G37 sedan with sport package. It certainly has more roll and feels less planted than the Z. I hear swaybars make an even more significant improvement for the G than the Z.

Thx for the response, I'm looking for people that have done that switch from z to g, because a test drive can't really give you a true impression of how you'll like the car after a week, a month, and longer. And the excitement of test driving a new car can distract you from actually seeing the differences.

The pay off such as having better interior and many other things is worth the trade off.. And as far as it being softer than a 350z..nothing a few mods can't please how you want it to drive.

Yea the z is a little sparse with nice features and quality materials, another reason I'm looking to switch.

I haven't regretted my switch for a moment. Same fun 6MT, low end torque, and nice exhaust note. More comfort and features. It still handles sporty, but not on the same level as the Z. My wife's 335i with sport package feels a lot more like a sports car. But if you care about having that stiff, sporty ride sways, strut brace, springs/coilovers will go a long way.

Owned two 350z's. one 2003 track edition and then sold it for a 2007 Nismo, one of the first in the states. Loved both cars until I sold the Nismo and purchased a 2012 IPL. I also wanted a back seat and more luxury with the Z. The IPL is by far a much more enjoyable daily for me. Best car I've ever owned hands down! I spent ridiculous amounts of money on my Z and was on my350z for years.

OP,

Maybe the IPL is for you. Its a better handling car than the S. I've driven it and a 350Z (never owned though). To me they feel about the same (with the exception of certain handling characteristics which distinguish the two platform generations) unless you are counter-steering at the limit.

The 370Z is a different ball game. But the 350's capabilities compared to the current gen G is a wash.

handling traits however will be different. The Z is more tossable (shorter wheel base/ lighter car). The G feels more planted.

Wel I'm glad to hear good things about the g coupe, the ipl is outta the question for price reasons, but I have gotten really used to having a daily driver that handles the way it does. I definitely won't be buying a g37 without the sport package.

I owned a 350Z before the G; both modified. I have had a few different suspension set-ups on the G - two sets of sway bars, coilovers with damping adjustability, springs, two different strut bars, and all body braces offered by GT Spec.

I was intrigued by the more luxurious G and thought I would enjoy the "luxury sports car," so I purchased the G the second time around. The grass is always greener, I guess.

That said, even with all the work done to my G, it's not even close. I often miss my Z and find myself wishing I had gone with the 370Z over the G37. If your biggest priority is the driving experience, go for the Z. If someone offered me a comparable trade, given the modifications to my G, I would likely jump on it.

Just my $.02.

I owned a 2006 350Z for 5 years and it was a great car, but as an all-around car the g37 is better. Seems like a lot of people have made this jump and are very satisfied with it.

If you want sport and luxury at a reasonable price that does everything well, then this is the car for you. But like someone else said, go test drive it and see for yourself...

All this is good information. I'm completely sick of not having a backseat for room reasons, and I realize that it won't be exactly the same as a z. But it seems like the best choice of 2 door 4 seat, luxury coupes. And reliability is a big issue with me so bmw and benz are definitely out

I traded my 2005 350Z (Touring Auto)for a G37 (non sport convertible auto) the G has plenty of zip and with an additional nearly 50 hp over my Z, I don't feel as if I have lost a step in speed. I don't feel I can throw the G around like the Z but to me that is the only difference. I have to say I don't really miss the harshness of the Z ride. I too traded my Z because I needed a back seat. I believe it is as close as you can get and not be in a Z. Good luck.
