Radiator/ Ac fan assembly......Dealership tried to RIP ME OFF
ok, well recently my Ac/Radiator fan Motors gave up on me, so i went to the dealership in hopes of repairing under warranty but unfortunately was not covered and the service rep was just not being helpful at all. So I went to get a price quote to replace it myself and it was $400(Give or take a little) at the dealership and $300 at the local parts store .
Fed up with their prices and service there I decided to pull it apart and repair the OEM motors myself. luckily enough the brushes inside the motor just expanded so i decided to replace them and just cleaned the inside as much as i can.
I didn't take much pictures but here is what i did take...
removing the blades and motors from the assembly:
ac motor with the back cover removed ^_^ :
as you can see the brush housing is a bit dirty :
New brush installed and housing cleaned up a lil :
and motor put back together:
after the install on the car the fans turn on perfectly or just like OEM
so i saved my self $300-$400 just by replacing the brushes for just $20...man am i happy

I wouldn't say they tried to rip you off...how long did it take you to do the work?
How much do you think the shop rate is?
The dealer is going to replace the whole unit instead of replacing the brushes. They would need to warranty the work they did and if they didn't replace the whole part the chances of something else failing would be higher. Sometimes the cost of rebuilding the part at a shop , or dealer is higher than the cost of replacing it.

They did not try to rip you off at all. Dealerships never rebuild parts like that, they just replace them. $100 more for an OEM part like that over aftermarket isn't necessarily that high.
At any rate, it's great you are a competent DIYer and could handle the job pretty easily. Kudos to you sir.

Great Job Allan!
As you know, I just had my clutch master cylinder replaced there. I'm not complaining but when I got my final bill, it was almost twice of what the price quote they gave me. Good thing they "adjusted" the prices and they were able to make it close to the initial quote.

Myk: thanks, I read some messed up stories but mostly at our Toyota dealership.
Jsolo: as for the brushes they sell them at electrical shops here, that is true it is a lot faster to just replace instead of rebuild .
