Rear ended crash :(

Sad news in the world last week. I rear ended a car and smashed my car . I am physically okay, but emotionally hurt beyond words. I got my car towed to an autoshop and waiting for my insurance adjuster to come by today or tomorrow the check out the car. I don't know if there is any frame or engine damage at the time, which is stressing me out. The shop gave me a preliminary estimate (without taking anything apart) and the cost of parts and labor is around $7500 right now.

What do you guys think from the look of it? Should I hope that it gets totaled?

Here are my financed details:
Cost: $30K
Down payment: $15K
Remaining on loan: $11.8K
Aftermarket spent to date: $2.7K

Any help would be great, thanks guys!

Personally, I would prefer it be totaled, because in the long run you'll have headaches, whether with the repair work or just when you try to sell/trade it in eventually...

Sad news in the world it is my friend! Glad you're ok, because that looks like it hurt.

I don't know the circumstances of the accident, but we've had a few of them come up on this forum within the last 2-3 weeks...we need to drive carefully guys, so we don't end up wishing and hoping our car gets totaled by the insurance adjusters... My .02

Hope it all works out OP. Keep us posted.

That's a tough one to call. I can guarantee that the estimate will double once the year down begins. You adjuster will most likely pay for the tear down and go from there. Close call on the car being totaled.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Im still waiting on the adjuster or auto shop to give me a call about the accident.

@g37sam - I was exiting the freeway and made a right. The next street light was probably 3 car distances away and right as I turned, the light turned yellow and the car infront of me made a hard stop right when it turned yellow instead of going. I tried to dodge the car, but clipped his left side.

Did you report your aftermarket upgrades to your insurance beforehand?

Great driving tips...we all know when you rear end someone, it must be their fault because they stopped for a light that was about to turn red. Tell that to your insurance agent next time...

S0rry to see that, boss. I can see your springs.... weird. $7500 seems low. Hopefully they decide to total it. After they pay it off, you may get close to what you put down...maybe a little less.
