Intelligent Key not working

My 2nd intelligent key doesn't work to unlock or start my car. The battery is good and measures 3.01 V (less than a year ago). It wouldn't start my car even when placed in the slot. Help?

Yeah, that doesn't sound right. I was about to ask you to swap the batteries from the key that does work, but then you mentioned that it won't even work when placed in the slot under the dash... Dumb question, but did it work from the beginning and just now died on you? What year is your G and how long have you had it?

Take it to the dealer if still under warranty.

Sounds like your second key isn't even programmed to the vehicle.

This...or maybe you got it wet somehow.

Dealer quoted to get it reprogrammed is $114, not guaranteed to work.

Key has not gotten wet, it lives in a bucket on a shelf in a room in a house. Rarely ever gets used. It definitely worked last spring.

twice in the last month mine didnt work for a short time(maybe 15 seconds),called the service rep since the battery low indicator wasnt pop on and was adviced to bring it in/said it probably is shorting out and they would replace it and reprogram both fobs under warranty .glad it happened because while searching for fob problems i ran across the rust stains on my differential that have been stumping me-a $1700 crossmember bushing leaking!
and my warranty is up in 2 months

similar thing happened to me just recently, worked perfectly fine, didn't use the secondary key for like a week and i go back to it and it would not work at all, luckily i'm under warranty so the dealer swapped it with a new key fob, didn't tell me what was wrong with it though.

I believe you have to get them from a dealership. There are some dealerships that offer better on-line prices than walk up prices (Sewell). You will still need to get it programed at a dealership regardless where you got it.

As far as I know you're stuck with the dealer to get it reprogrammed. They'll charge you a 1/2 hr labor and it takes them about 2 mins.

Anyone know a way around this??

Well a local Nissan dealer said they would do it for $55. If it doesn't work, it'd be $142 for a new key, and another $55 to attempt to program.

I bought a used intelligent key and cut physical key off of ebay for $40 shipped. I've also booked an appointment for next week at the local Nissan dealer. $95 for at least two working intelligent keys, possibly three. I am guessing the intelligent key in question is toast anyways, so might as well not pay to reprogram it twice!
