I have spoken directly to the service manager multiple times and he basically said the same thing (need to recreate the problem) He also personally drove my car for 3 days and came back saying it was fine. In addition yes I was told about how the techs went to school, take pride in there work ect.. Drove a few loaners on this unpleasant journey for answers and frankly they have the same issues. This is just the way these G37 7AT's behave. And it's not about trying to act smarter than the dealership, its about acting smart in general. A car of this caliber should definitely shift better especially when I am paying good money for it.

I believe they still need to update the earlier 2012 models which I bet still have the 2011 program. The update has not been released yet for the early 2012's to my knowledge. I think they needed to get the biggest group of owners happy as soon as possible (the 10 and 11's). Now that that is done, the rest should be soon, I would hope.

I experienced all the problems on my 2011 (harsh downshifts, lagging, thuds, etc), and I hated it.

NOW they are ALL fixed since I got the ITB12-027 update. I'm sure this will be addressed soon for the 09 and early '12 models.

The latest 2012 G's have no transmission issues, in my experience. Drove two of them.

7 Speed Problems

Not true Mike. My 2012 has numerous little problems which just doesn't seem right for a car of this price and nature. My biggest complaint is in the "M" mode and having the transmission shift for me as I'm decelerating quickly. Isn't the "M" for manual? Then let me shift when I want to shift not when you think it's needed. While on the track I often brake late and then hit the down-shift paddle twice to get into the right gear for the corner. Often I find that I'm in a gear one lower than I need because the transmission has already shifted one gear lower while I'm braking without me knowing it. Remember while on the track your eyes are on the road and not the dash during cornering so you can't notice this by the gear indicator or even the sound sometimes. Pain in the *** to be expecting 3rd. gear and get 2nd. instead. Very close to over-revving the engine at those times and it just screws up a good corner entrance and exit.

The main problem is the software has been designed by marketers rather than engineers who really want to use this car as it should or could be. I would be interested in hearing if the 370Z 7 speed has the same problem.

I agree, I hate that it can be in an "unknown" gear in that situation. BUT, I think if you do not let the revs get so low that it wants to override, then this does not happen. I am pretty sure it wont do a downshift if you are keeping the revs near say 3000, right? I have never seen it do it with the new program so far anyway.

I think what you are describing is unfortunately the normal behavior done by other automatics out there, including BMW, Audi, Mazda, etc, and everything else that I have driven with a manual mode. So this is not a "bug", or "problem" but rather an undesirable behavior to you (and me). I'd like to be able to set preferences for these things, but I think we will never see that, unless someone customizes the ECU/TCU. I suspect most people would be frustrated and confused if their manu-matic was in 7th gear at a stoplight when they stepped on the gas, and then they would be screaming and yelling at Infiniti claiming it is buggy. This is all about pleasing the most people most of the time, and most people are going to be confused by everything

Again I agree this is annoying behavior when you are doing really serious/hard driving. It's just the unfortunate result of living in a society where most people are not terribly serious drivers (to put it mildly!)

Is this confirmed - or speculation? I have 2 2012's - one with a build date of 08/11 - the other with a build date of 10/11. They seem to have different shift patterns (among other things). The shift characteristics of the one built on 10/11 is far preferable.

Ooops - so sorry - I have 2 sedans...not sure how I jumped to the coupe forum. Still the question stands...

It is speculation, which I think you just confirmed with your observations.

MalbecG37S - Thank you for your observation. My cars build date was September 2011 so that could explain why its behaving differently. I must have the old software..

My car has a 10/11 build date. Would that make it with the newer updated software?
