How much mileage is too much before buying?
Hi guys,
I've put a tentative offer on a 2008 G37s coupe with Navi & Premium package. The car currently has 70,000 km (= 43,495 miles) since I'm in Canada. Infiniti has a 4 year comprehensive bumper to bumper warranty and I believe that's up now. So the only thing I'd have left is the 5 year/110,000 km power train warranty. So I have 2 questions:
1) Is this a safe buy consider the high mileage? (note: the vehicle has had zero accidents)
2) Should I consider purchasing extended warranty or waste of money?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, as I have 48 hours to withdraw my offer.
Thanks in advance!

Based on what I have read on these forums the 3.7 is pretty darn stout, it really boils down to interior condition and history of the car on your buying decision. I bought my G coupe with 29,000 miles, and I got about 33,000 now. Car is just fantastic...

That at least gives me a little peace of mind hearing that...glad to hear you've had no issues with yours. The interior condition of the car is actually incredible. There's just a couple touch up spots that they've committed to fixing, but aside from that it's all good. For some reason, I couldn't hear any music believe it or not, but I'm taking the car for a full on inspection by a trusted mechanic. If it passes his exam, then I'll breathe a bit easier

i bought my 09 coupe with 7k miles in november and ive brought it to the dealer a few times already to fix a few minor problems with the interior. havent had a single problem with anything else, and the few things i got fixed were not important really, i only got them fixed up because it was free under the warranty. So like sython said, make sure you like the interior condition (especially since there wont be a warranty left)

Ive got well over 120,000km or 75,000 miles on mine and its running really well, just had a couple slave cylinders go a few times for the clutch but it was blamed on a bad pressure plate, since then ive had no problems... just a tip before you buy... go into an infiniti nissan dealership and ask to see all warranty related repairs sometimes that could make it or break it... if I had known my cars had over 35 warranty related issues I would never had bought it... just upkeep it and you should be fine

Wow guys, many great points you've brought up. From what I inspected of the interior, everything looked decent for the most part. The aluminum alloy/stainless steel (not sure what material to be honest) part of the gas pedal had somewhat peeled, but I'm sure they can buff that out. The driver's wheel had a part of it where the black color had somewhat faded, but maybe they can paint that? And the only other thing was no music was playing though the system was on. So either I was the idiot or there's something that requires fixing. Tomorrow, I'm taking it to Infiniti to do a full on inspection plus I'll pay to have the computer diagnostics done as well. At least it'll make me feel better about my purchase.
And as unknowndesi said, I'll check to see if this particular vehicle had any warranty related repairs. So all that have to do is search the VIN and it brings it up, regardless of whether it was done at another Infiniti dealership?
The tires seem new, but I really want to ask the mechanic if he knows if the brakes have been replaced or not...and if not, how long before they need to be replaced. I'm guessing they cost a pretty penny

My car is 5 months old now, just a few miles over 3K. Everything still looks brand new, but the driver seat has some creases, especially visible in the thigh bolsters. I think that's common on these.
As for miles, while your car has relatively low miles for a 5 model year old car, keep in mind that 2008 is one of the first builds. No doubt later builds worked some of the bugs out.
Are you going manual or auto?

+1 for ^. I bought mine at 45,000 and I'm now going on 50,500 and it's still as strong as a horse with no signs of weakening. Some dude just sold his at 100,000 miles and he said he hasn't done anything but routine maintenance.

you guys all rock! This has seriously given me a LOT of hope with getting this car. I wonder if the mechanic will be able to tell me if the brakes have been done yet. Thank you all for your feedback.

which dealership did you go to... I live in Brampton and ive been to the Markham,Woodbridge and Oakville dealership for warranty repairs all in all Markham and Woodbridge has been the worst as far as service all they wanted to do was take all my money... after my first CSC repair they charged me about $300 for them stripping bolts... I was so angry that I was being charged for their mistakes and problems, and same goes for Woodbrige or alta infiniti on hwy 7... all in all the best trips have always been with Oakville... if you want an honest opinion and dont want to waste your time go down to Oakville... PM me if you need any help :-D

Bought my 08 S Auto with 124,000 miles on the clock. Has had nothing but routine maintenance throughout it's history, and everything still works great. Runs great, looks great, gets 21.4 avg city mpg. I've had lots of high mileage Hondas/Toyotas/Nissans (up through 200k) and have never had any issues. No worries! If it's been maintained right/cared for and no accident issues, then get it & enjoy it!
