Debating turning in G37x sedan for new G37s coupe or used M3 coupe

For the past week I have been arguing with myself if I want to keep the G37x sedan. I for one have been driving it in auto-manual for the past month and a half and it has made me want to get a manual coupe. I only have two choices right now because I find the sedan to be too bulky for my driving habits and I hate having people sit in my backseat, that is why my choice has been narrowed down to those choices. Only reason I am not flat out going with the used M3 is because it is significantly more and will have used my someone else; I don't really like paying that amount of money that someone else could have screwed up the car. I'm also not going to be driving this car in the rain or winter as I am buying a beater car once again for that. Another reason why I have been making the debate between the two is the groups that associate with the two, imports vs euro. I found that most of the BMW crowd is a little more mature than the import crowd in NJ(stupid Honda owners). The only other reason infant decide is because I'm still financing my sedan and am currently ahead in my payments. So I came into the coupe forum to see if anyone can persuade me into getting the coupe. These are my only 2 choices, I don't want AWD so that throws out the Audi's. Also don't want the 370z because I want to keep it in the sport luxury class.

M3.. hands down. It has REAL performance, where the G has "serviceable" performance, LOL. And since you are going to get a beater, you should be good!

Also, with the M3, I find that you aren't so much of a victim of new body styles. It's an M3. The original one is still hot to me, LOL. I ALMOST bought an M3 but figured that I needed a japanese car for my daily and I already have an SL55 AMG as my fun car.

Good luck!

Definitely M3...just make sure its certified pre-owned amd that it still has an existing warranty. That being said, I wouldn't biy just any old high milage, beat to hell M3 just so its in your budget. If you find one that's in good shape and that you can afford, go for it, if not keep looking or go with a G37. The closer we get to the release of the new 3series coupe and M3, the lower the prices will go on the current body style. While it can't compare to an M3, the G37 coupe is a great all-around car.

Don't let car brand stereo types influence your decision. Every brand has its share of owners that you wouldn't want to associate with. Look at any car brand and you'll be able to find an owner that is a ricer, obnoxious, arrogant, immature, etc. Get what you like, not what image you think your will portray

If you can't afford the M3, make sure you don't drive one.

+1 on the CPO. Spare parts can get pretty costly (obviously they do with all luxury cars).

I can afford the m3, my thoughts was just do I want to pay that much on a used car. The problem with finding a CPO with under 30k miles(don't want anything with anymore mileage than that) is that in a 200 mile radius of my house there are 3; one being higher price than it should be and in another state, the one in state has 2 accidents(how is this CPO worthy?), and the last a sedan(don't want a sedan when the m5's in the same year are the same price). I see this playing out for awhile for me this route.

Be careful when considering a car solely because it is "Certified Pre-Owned". There are laws/requirements that must be met by a dealership to sell a car as CPO; even if a car has been heavily damaged, so long as they spend the money to fix it so that it meets the requirements, it can be listed as CPO.

I think you should hold out for the "new m3's" and see how they are. If you don't like them then by then then hopefully a few more older m3's may be on sale around you, fingers crossed. Of course, this is all assuming you don't mind having the car for a few more months.

He said he can only afford an M3 if he buys a used one. So waiting for the new model to come out is pointless because even if he LOVES it he won't be able to afford it...unless he's willing to wait a few more years so he can pick up a used one, which it doesn't look like he wants to do.

Technically since they won't be taking orders for the new m3 till next year I could technically afford it. I just kinda dont trust the tri-turbo motor they are putting in. The reason I didn't go with the 335ci and 1m was because they came with stock turbos, too many problems can occur. I've never understood why BMW would go from naturally aspirated to forced induction, it takes away the tuners ability to mold the car to how they want.

Personally I would go with a used M3, it's that much better than a new G37. Both body styles are changing soon anyhow.

I'm also at the Jersey Shore (Ocean County). However, I need AWD since my G is my daily driver. I recently leased another G37xS Coupe and love it. However, I have to agree with the others that a CPO M3 with low miles is a very compelling alternative. By the way, I was driving down Route 1 in Edison recently and saw that Open Road BMW had what appeared to be a white pre-owned M3. Where are you located at the Jersey Shore?
