Hey guys, new here and interested in a G37-S

Well, I have been in the market for a new car the last few months and I really like the look of the G37-S. I have also looked at a WRX-sti, an Acura RSX-S and the Lexus is-350. Out of all of these, the G37-S seems like the more appealing of my options.

I have a few questions though:

1) I heard the engine consumes oil, a lot. Now I have researched this on Google and found that this is an issue on the 08 and older models. Also read that it depends on how you drive it and such. Anyone have an issue with this?

2) Heard about the transmission being noisy, clunky and obnoxious. Any truth behind this?

3) Are these cars stolen often? Coming from an Acura Integra GSR looking out for suspicious looking people wouldn't be a new thing for me. But would like to own a car that isn't on the top 10 most stolen vehicles list.

4) How pricey are mods? I'm not looking to go nuts, just perhaps headers, exhaust and intake. Just the usual bolt on stuff.

5) What's up with the exhausts needing replacing? Heard some people had issues with this.

6) Seats bubble up?

7) Windshield rattling issue?? wtf?

My main issue with these cars is the reliability. Edmunds gives engine reliability a bad review, while everything else scores just fine. I would like to hear opinions from current owners. Gonna go test drive one this week!

Thank you all for reading this and I appreciate any help and opinions you guys might have to offer. TY!

1) Haven't really noticed it if it exists.

2) No complaints on the 5 speed auto...so far.

3) Nope, but the rims are.

4) Exhaust and intake are probably what you would normally pay for any car. I think you can get an intake for under 500 and a full exhaust kit for a bit over 1,000

5) Going on 50,000 miles and nope

6) Unfortunately yes

7) It's not an issue with all cars, mine hasn't had it *crosses ingers*

For the reliability issue I hear most g37 owners get to 100,000 miles with no problems by just doing routine oil changes. Definitely far more reliable than BMW's and Benz's in its class.

There definitely are minor annoyances with the car, but not enough to make me or most owners here regret buying it. You should be aware though that there's a `squealing` issue when reversing when you first start the car, especially on a cold morning; more so with the sport model.

Best of luck to your car shopping, hope you decide to go with infiniti!

Oh yeah, for another review, my mom has a bmw 330xi and the car is awesome and feels fast as hell off the line, but I'd rather take the G over the BMW just for looks. Personally I like the G coupe and the 335 sedan. Also not sure about your area but far less people have G coupes around here so it's nice to stand out among the crowd.

5. Mine is fine so far
6. Mine didn't

Go test drive one. Best thing you can do is decide for yourself.

I drive an 08 g37 and I have no serious problems with it. Im at 22k miles. Seats getting messed up is the only thing and you tend to get used to it anyway. It doesn't bother me anymore.

The oil consumption issue was with the VQ35DE from the older G35's and 350's.

37 oil consumption can happen but it is not common.

Are manual transmission slave cylinder failures common to all model years, or just the 08 and older?

I've heard of slave cylinder failures on the 08-09, but not the 10+. I'm at 29k miles and the clutch feels the same as it always has.

1) This happens on some of the cars but not all of them. I have an 08 6MT got it back in 08 when the G37S first came out and no issue for me.

2) If you get a manual transmission you will often get a clunk. It is normal with our engine.

3) Car being stolen itself no but a lot of the wheels gets stolen. I hope you really have a good place to park your car at night. Hopefully a garage.

4) The mods prices can range up any where between 200 all the way to 14k.

5) Once again some of the exhausts in the G were bent slightly which the dealer replaces it for free.

6) Seat bubble is a big big big problem for 90% cars.

7) Once again on some models but most models will make a pop noise when you turn on the AC or Heater.

I think if you want a fast car and have just about the same luxury factor as the G, I would get a STI or if you can a Evo X. Those cars have just about everything on the G and is faster and cheaper.

Now if you just want class, then I would say the G. I say this because my two best friends just bought a 2012 STI and 2011 evo x and man I was shocked how both the STI and Evo had a luxury feel to it. I was very surprised indeed.

So in final go test drive all the cars you are in the market for.

Sorry but the STI and evo have nothing in the G when it comes to luxuries. The STI in particlular has a very cheap looking interior.

Wow, seems like the only problem you all have shared is the bubbling on the seats.

I have time this week, so I plan on going out and test driving as much as I can and taking notes while I am at it. Buying my Integra GSR wasn't a hard decision since I wanted that car for so long. I also really like Tacomas, but I have never owned a truck and going from a GSR to a truck is going to be a hard transition. Gonna test drive that as well and see how I like it. Thanks everyone for the information.

Any issues I didn't list that you guys have had with the G37 S??

Pretty sure nothing is different on the slave throughout the years. Some Z's have the problem too.

LOL and your saying our G's don't? Last time I check the dash board was all plastic to. For a 40k new that comes with plastic. Hmm.

Once again have you been in a 2011 STI?
