Whats up guys, I just got my 2012 G37S coupe 6MT White on Black and its the best car I've owned so far. I Understand little bit of details of the car about the speed and handling, but I'd like to know more about it, what it can and cannot do. How to make my driving skills on it better. I've been driving a stick since 15 so i'm good at take offs and shifting without ever jerking the car. I spent a full day and a half tank of gas just practicing on my launches. Which is something I highly recommend for new stick drivers to do. So far I've gotten tints on the car, got rid of the holes where the front license plate goes, and painted the grill matte black all done professionally. Next step for me is to vinyl the top shiny black, paint the rims black and the brake calipers white all around. I'm thinking about doing some mods to the engine, but don't want to spend to much money because the car is a lease. But any help from you guys will be greatly appreciated. And I raced a 335 Coupe yesterday and spanked it by 5 to 6 cars behind me. It was funny how he was trying to catch up. But that's besides the point. congrats on the car but i have to call BS on beating the 335i. There's absolutely NO way our G37 can beat a 335i in a fair race unless the driver in the 335i was not trying.

 

5-6 cars behind sounds like raced a 328i maybe?

The 335i is a great performance machine, stock to stock the 335i 300hp/300 torque (underrated) at 1,500-5,000 RPM would beat the G in straight line I would wager. Unless the G is a really good driver vs a 335i automatic with slow paddle shifting or something

With some affordable mods though a G can take on a 335i.

Welcome to the community even though it is a lease I am sure you will find a ton of DIY guides that will start you modding! Maybe intake/exhaust/tune/wheels? Keep us updated

 

I think you thought you were racing a 335i, but really the driver probably had no clue you blowing by him at 35 MPH above the speed limit was considered racing. In fact, he probably thought look there goes another idiot in a G that I hope gets pulled over.

Seriously bro, practicing all day launching the vehicle? Why? You plan on tracking the car? Yet you do not want to spend $$$ on the engine, correct? Just a pointer, the G isn't designed and produced to go fast. IMHO, it provides just enough power to satisfy at least my needs, while delivering on style and looks...if you are looking to "smoke BMW's" you leased the wrong vehicle my man.

Easy on the street racing too, trust me...it is not worth it.

even with affordable mods like i/h/e/suspension which does add up. Even if the 335i was auto with paddle shifters it'll still spank our G37S 6MT with mods. Don't get me wrong i rather have the G over the 335i but the 335i are insanely quick and with some software tune they are quicker than the E92 M3's.

 

of course all of this was done on the track and not on the street? right?

Couldn't have been a 335i.

I had the G37S, and now own a 335is.

And when I had my G37, my friend had a 335i.

There is absolutely no way that stock for stock a G37 would win... it just wouldn't happen. Either it was a 328 that looked like a 335, or he just wasn't trying, because face it, not everyone on the road in a sports coupe wants to race you...

Also, not sure if this holds true for the coupe, but compared to my sedan, the 335 outhandles the G37 and just performs better in ALL aspects stock/stock

Also, shouldn't you be breaking in the car first?? First 1000 miles.
(Maybe this isn't true for Manual cars...)

Also, if the car is a lease, I wouldn't mod the engine unless you can completely reverse it and make it seem as if the mod was never there

 

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the car. I wouldn't recommend painting the calipers/wheels on a lease unless you plan to pick up a new set when you turn it in as you will get charged for them. You can get some caliper vinyl stickers to put on the calipers and you can plastidip the wheels if you really want them black, that way you can peel it off when it's time to turn the car in.

On a side note this is one reason why I'm really glad I bought my car new, you shouldn't be "launching and racing" your car as soon as you get it. Drive it easy for the first 1200 miles like the manual says and break it in properly. The next owner will be very grateful

 

It's odd that the front plate bracket was "pre-installed". Haven't seen that done on a new G.

It's possible that he out ran the 335. The 335 driver must have blown his tranny (< that didn't sound right).

What's funny is that I had a brand new, loaded G37S at 16 (when it's legal to have a car and drive in California)
Plus, I'm not saying he is 15... just that the post sounded that way...

Maybe something is wrong with your G??? I have smoked several 335i's... I have hardly any mods... And yes, they try real hard and look surprised after...
