I have an 08 and was able to just replace the footrest, has clips on back that attach to the carpet. Hardest part was the dealer finding out what part to order, after the wrong part came he found the right part number.
INF 67840-1NF1A Footrest assy, this was for the sport model.

so i can ask my dealer to change that foot rest only since they told me they want to redo the whole carpet, which i don't think it's a good idea.

If they say they can't just get the footrest give them that part number. I think the problem is most dealers can't figure out how to just order the footrest without the carpet kit. The Infiniti part system is one of the worse I've ever seen, I really feel bad for those parts guys.
First time they ordered it for me only the foam base came in, then somehow he found the correct part number, I couldn't see it anywhere. Tony is a really nice guy and always goes the extra mile to get what you need.

It's held to the carpet by 6 push nuts and takes no time at all to change out.

They're plastic with some aluminum attached, it can oxidize if it get wet. The aluminim strips have a clear coating to prevent this but it can get scratched off if you put your foot on it a lot.

Just joined the forums / bought a 2008 G37S 6MT and was happy to find this new post regarding the exact information needed to get the footrest replaced after some previously unfruitful searching when I got the car in February. However, I've ordered it from the dealter exactly as listed here and it was the aluminum part without anything else but was too small. So, I'm assuming that your 2008 S coupe is an automatic / non-6MT as this part seemed to line-up to the current model automatic coupe they had in the show room but doesn't fit mine.

Is there anyone that can help with the part number needed for the 6MT version of this easily corroded / deteriorated pedal (it's a couple inches longer and a little wider)? The parts guys indeed could not navigate the system easily and one of them who was kinda helpful took up the challenge and is ordering something else that "may" be it and is willing to swap with the one I've already paid for if it works. But, it seems that's just a shot in the dark and if anybody can be precise here I could pass that on to them in time to salvage the money I've already spent. Thanks in advance and hope someone can help.

Has anyone tried some polish and fine steel wool?

Mine shows no signs of rusting and I live in rain country (Oregon)
