Does Your G37 Instigate Road Rage???

I've had my G37S coupe for about two months. Whenever I drive it anywhere - I seem to instigate road rage in other drivers in spite of the fact that I don't drive it aggressively. The incidents range from just dirty looks to dangerous tailgating and sometimes worse. I drive my wife's Acura TSX the same way in the same areas without incident.

Am I the only one who is experiencing this???

One key factor may be that I now live in rural Southern Ohio, as I've had nicer foreign cars in other parts of the country (LA and Boulder, CO) without these problems (excepting one Harley rider spitting on my M3 near Denver).

My wife is too scared to drive the Infiniti now, because she's seen these things happen all too often.

I don't mean to contaminate the opinion pool with my own theories here - but have things gotten so bad economically that driving a relatively modest car like this is enough to provoke others to acts of aggression on the road? I look around my area and see numerous trucks and SUVs that cost close to what this car cost - or more. But it's some of these same vehicles riding my bumper, and in one case nearly causing a bad accident. Is it maybe less a class issue than a social one?

I'm genuinely concerned.

Ron

i personally have noticed people tailgaiting me more as having a sports car means i have to drive like a retard.

one thing i have had an excess of is little kids driving their hondas/toyotas/nissans wanting to race me...like they have something to prove. so i usually egg them on a little with some engine revving....then i get to laugh at them when they take off like idiots.

i do think you may be right about the class thing, however i would think it's more a self esteem or jealousy thing for most of those people you speak of.

Thanks for the reply.

I get the guys trying to race me, too. But that doesn't bother me as much. In the end it's sort of a compliment, and it's usually only dangerous if I let it become so. That happened all the time when I lived in LA, especially.

But I had an older man (65+) in a black full-size GMC pickup pull up next to me at a stoplight last week, and start yelling unintelligibly at me. I tried to ignore him. When the light turned green HE TRIED TO RACE ME! Imagine that - in a huge GMC pickup! Seriously??? But before I could even react a car coming the other way ran the light and turned in front of us - causing him to nearly hit him head-on. The tires screeched and horns blared. There I was, minding my own business as I had been before - but initially laughing at the absurdity of it all. Then I thought about it, and realized how close people came to getting hurt.

Over what???

My Infiniti???

What is wrong with people???

I get it all the time myself. Im sure it doesn't help that i look like im 20 either people saying things under their breath when u step out of the car, everyone and their mothers wanting to race, the ocasiaonal dirty look. It is what it is. I dont think its the econmy it's not that bad yet, where people just hate anyone that has a bit of cash. Coming from a country where that's the case trust me were a ways off. Its a sporty car, people will always find a reason to either try you or hate on you for something. You and your wife enjoy the ride forget the haters

Ha! Maybe!! My M3 was much edgier than that: dark blue with red and the full fiberglass extended fender/ground effects kit. But that was in LA.

Maybe I should paint it beige, and suction-cup a 'Baby on Board' sign to the window.

I never considered the age-appearance factor. I'm 42, but from a distance through tinted windows and my hat . . . I can appear a lot younger.

I suppose it's something of a psychology study.

Ha! And I sincerely try not to escalate things. But tonight (which finally provoked me to write this post) some person in a Ford Festiva decided to nearly rear-end me up an off-ramp. He was all over the road, clearly trying to intimidate me. I did opt to frustrate him by slowing down, and then he tried to edge around me - even though it was ONE LANE. I blocked him, then gunned it - leaving him forever behind me. But these things happen two or three times a day.

Driving the Acura - never.

I have these problems all the time. I drive my G to work and back every day; I don't cut in and out of traffic and don't really speed. I've had people tailgate me, I even had two people think it would be hilarious by driving 25mph in a 55 zone side-by-side so I couldn't get around. Just last week I had a 60 year old man start honking his horn to get my attention just so he could flip me off (all I did was pull up next to him at a red light).

It's probably just jealousy.

This has been happening to me too! I think it may have to do with me being 19 years old. The first week I got my car, I was driving it from the hospital to home and some kid was tailing me in a white corolla that looked like it was going to fall apart. I looked in my back window, i couldnt see his headlights or anything, then he gave me the middle finger, I pulled over on the side and let him through.... when i saw his car, it was completely beat up. I was scared he was going to tap me a few times.

Also, when I accelerate at stop lights, the person next to me is flooring it for some odd reason. as you know you have to be ahead all the time so i press the gas a little haha. and they are keeping up with me while I am shifting at 4k rpms

there are also those people with prius's which floor it every single time... i dont mess with them
