Upgrade your exhaust but 500 is not going to cut it. You might be able to get an used cat back but to make it really scream you need a full cat back which can set you back to 1000+.

save up some $$ and sell your intake. If you like it loud you have to pay to play.. First of all get the Cold air intake from Stillen or Injen, then you have 2 choices for exhausts that will make things much louder for you:
1) Fast Intentions Carbon Fiber Cat back exhaust, looks beautiful and sounds great...
2) Meistershaft G37 Exhaust, looks complicated, sounds like all a room full of beautiful models having wild orgasms.

Downside? The Cold air intake will set you back around 500, and the Fast Intentions exhaust will set you back around 1800. The Meistershaft system is one of the best and most expensive exhausts for the G and it runs around 3400 shipped for the full exhaust.

The cheapest alternative and probably your best option for getting your car louder for under 500 is swap your cats. You can get High Flow Cats, Test Pipes, (resonated, or double resonated variations of each as well) which will give your stock exhaust a much deeper rumble but may add a bit of rasp as well. The new Motordyne ART test pipes are really nice might wanna look into those.

Another option for exhaust is to go with the Tanabe. They sell a full cat back BUT, and this is the reason I went with Tanabe, you can buy it in pieces. I purchased the axle back and later will add to it. X pipe/resonators/hi flow cats. It has made it louder and some people just stay with the axle back. Youll have to decide that. Tanabe is right there with Fast Intentions but Fast Intenetions is probably better with Tanabe a close second.. JM2C

He beat me to it ^^^^^^What he said.

Could he just do an axle back? That should be doable with his budget, then add the rest of the cat back later. Thats what my plan was with the Z. It only took me a week to add the rest but it can be done in steps with some companies.

Get a M2 or Top Speed Pro exhaust on eBay, they are louder and also copied Tanabe Medalion.. Cost around $230-$250, and you still have some change for other stuff

hmm, just noticed you got the X version. Not sure if they fit? But if Tanabe Medalion fit, they will also.

Also look at the parts for sale section of the forum. There are exhausts for sale all the time for around what you want to pay.

If you just want it louder just put some spring washers where your exhaust pipe meets the muffler. You'll lose a little bit of low end but you'll gain a deeper louder and less raspy tone. The 370z guys all pretty much do that til they get their exhausts. Do that until you can spring for a catback.
