AWD Coupe

Hi all,

I recently bought a G37xS Coupe and was wondering if Dropping/lowering your car would effect the AWD.

I have heard multiple people say it wouldn't make sense to drop AWD cars, then there no point in AWD and some people say it wouldnt effect it.

I kinda need some g37 AWD owners who knows about this situation.

Thanks!

Where have you heard that it doesn't make sense to lower an AWD vehicle? Lowering has zero effect on the AWD system. You can even run different sized wheels and tires but we can save that lesson for another day.

Just playing devil's advocate, but if you're buying an AWD for climate (read: snow), lowering it wouldn't make a lot of sense unless you wanted to be the neighborhood snowplow. Why not just purchase a non-awd G37 instead and save on the money / gas mileage?

That said, I've not heard of lowering a G37x to negatively affect the AWD system. In fact, Eibach makes a kit for the G37x, so if anything, I would suspect the opposite (that lowering is [a] safe, and [b] would actually improve handling).

OP, if you've got a need for AWD and still want it lowered, perhaps you might want to look into bagging it? It would at least provide the option to adjust the height as necessary.

I see where you're coming from. But unless you're absolutely slamming it, you shouldn't be doing any plowing lol. I purchased the X, b/c like you mentioned, the climate gets pretty nasty here, though it's been timid so far (knock on wood). If I lived 200 miles south, I would've undoubtedly bought the S instead of the X.

I don't think the OP needs to go on bags. That would probably be a bit overboard actually lol. It would be pretty cool to see an X on bags though. Just go the coilover route. When it gets to the winter months, raise it up. Currently I'm sitting higher than an Eibach drop. But in the warmer months, I'll lower it more than an Eibach drop

i have bc coilovers on my old G coupe (X), it wasnt slammed but there was no wheel gap. I would rub the snow on occasion but not that back, we got 80cm of snow in like 5 days in jan. The X comes way higher in the front than the S, so i say lower that bad boy since its a monster truck from the factory

I got my BCs from these guys: Car Accessories | Truck Accessories | Performance Auto Parts - JMAutoracing.com - View our aftermarket auto parts catalog. Not sure why it doesn't differentiate the RWD from the AWD coils. I would give them a call to confirm that they send you the AWD coils. Also if you use this coupon code, you'll save $100 instantly: BFCMBC. $800 for coils? That's a great deal.

Hey Steveo,

I'm looking to get the BC coils as well.. you say there was no wheel gap, (were you on the lowest setting?)
can you adjust it so there is some wheel gap?? I personally don't like it too low...

Also, how was the ride comfort compared to stock ??
