software update email received

today i received an email from infiniti informing me there is a software update available for my car. It is complimentary and i searched around here and think i gathered that its pretty much an ECU update (https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...cu-update.html and https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-cou...6mt-fix-2.html). Am i wrong, and if not is this all it is going to do? just wondering if this is something worth doing or if its just a waste and something infiniti does to try to get me to get other stuff done.

IMHO, I wouldn't let them do any flash to my car unless I had a problem with something and they assured me the flash would help.

When they reprogram the ECM as per a TSB, do they just update to the latest?

I was reading ITB10-010b (****ty battery, trouble starting) and noticed it never specifies what ECM to update too. I cross referenced this with ITB08-028a, and its the same idea, doesn't tell you what ECM to update too, just which parts too update.

I am thinking if/when they update or reprogram the ECM, it is updated to the latest at that time. Does anyone have some inside info on this, I'd love to know.

A few months ago I had ITB10-10b done and was told the ECM had been reprogrammed, as a result I am thinking the reprogram required for ITB08-028a is no longer necessary. Thoughts?

Post #2 hits the nail on the head. Unless you're actually experiencing a problem the update addresses directly, refrain from any updates. This actually applies to anything that is software/firmware driven. Updated software is on occasion more buggy than that it replaces (garmin comes to mind on this one quite often with their pnd firmware updates).
