How to get better MPG?

I have a 2009 g37 awd coupe

How can i get better MPG?

Would an intake and exhaust help? I probably wouldnt go as far as installing exhausts but how about intakes? Which intake is the best for mpg and that sounds good? Also, how many mpg better will i get with the intake? how about with the exhaust

I get 16mpg in the city which is horrible! Gas prices are going up. I know its an expensive car and i should be willing to dish out whatever for gas but its the little things that add up.

An intake and/or exhaust should help but a by-product of such mods is a heavier right foot.

I think you'll have to come to terms with it. I went from 27 MPG city to 17. I decided that paying for the gas is worth being able to drive this beauty of a machine. That's the price we have to pay!

Exhaust won't give you any noticeable difference. Stillen Gen 3 intakes have been reported to have gotten much better MPG from some owners, but it has to be a full CAI for anything noticeable. An Osiris UpRev tune will also help your MPG, because, if provided it's a live dyno tune, the tuner will straighten out your car and make it less rich in areas that don't need it--this, in turn, will equal better performance will less gas usage. After I had my car tuned, the tuner told me that I was running rich around 3K RPM, and after driving, I actually found a 1 MPG increase on average. Also, switching to Ester-based Motul synthetic oil gained me like .3 MPG on average. However, doing this all for, what, 2 extra MPG? it's not worth it, in my opinion.

If you could possibly get Stillen Gen 3 CAI, it'll help you with a couple miles per gallon. Yet still, getting 16 MPG city is pretty good for a G. Like the previous post, it's the price we pay. Don't forget, it's a huge 3.7 liter V6 under your hood. The other option is looking into a G25 sedan. I floored the heck out of it when I had one as my loaner, yet it still gave me better MPG than my G37 in normal driving. Engine size is what mattes.

Hate to say it, but that's the price you have to pay by choosing a G. Intake might improve a little tho.

yeah like everyone has indicated, the G never did get very good fuel eco... u'll avg like 18-19 tops.

even a tune won't make it really better, but your car will have better power delivery

I average 21.2 since I've owned the tune. Mixed driving, although mostly freeway/highway.

yeah that's kind of the key...

the G gets HORRIBLE city eco...

i swear it's not 18... it's like 13...

13 and 29 gets your 21, lol but honestly, at the rate of fuel consumption, i'm glad i we didn't have to pay the gas guzzler tax.

The best method of getting better fuel mileage is changing your driving habits. That doesn't mean you have to drive like an old lady.
A lot of driver's have no idea how bad they drive, as far as fuel mileage.
Most of your mileage is probably being ate up on how fast you approach and leave red lights and stop signs.
Think of the gas pedal as the money pedal. You have to pay to play.

What about with a 6MT? Where's the magic there? You don't want to try and accelerate in 6th while coasting at 20 mph, obviously. Is there a magic rpm range to hang out in within a gear to get maximum efficiency while accelerating while not wasting?

I've always felt that with manuals in general, the lower you keep the RPMs while cruising, the better MPGs you will get. When I cruise, I generally cruise around 5th gear going 35-40 mph. That's just where I feel the engine is "comfortable". I'm able to accel when I need to but the motor isn'0t running at 5K rpms either.

I just got the car yesterday. I went from 27mpg city regular gas to 16mpg city premium. big change. I knew it would happen and i was expected to get that much but as in hondas, i thought intake and exhausts would improve the mpg a little.

Can someone give me more info about he tune? how do i do it and where do i go to do it?

btw... even 2mpgs do make a difference in the long run to me. because that means im getting an extra like 40 miles a tank haha.

What were you driving to get 27 mpg in city driving?
