I bought my camaro z28 used with very low miles on it (10 or 11K). Around the time the warranty was up, I went back to school and needed reliable transportation and didn't want to deal/pay for repairs...so I got the extended warranty.

All the regular maintenance was done by me, or if it was something more involved, the local shop handled it for me.

During the 15 years I owned the car, it saw a dealer's service shop twice. First, shortly after I started school, the hood striker plate broke



And the second time was just before the extended warranty expired. One of the speakers blew (which btw is why i'm still undecided about getting the extended warr on the new G). So it is quite possible to never set foot into a dealer with a vehicle if you DYI or have repairs performed by other qualified third parties.
