Cracking/chipping on steering wheel

Cracking/chipping on steering wheel
Hey everyone,
The paint on the bezel of my steering wheel shows some cracking/peeling. I have heard of some people getting this swapped by Infiniti under warranty and that it may be a known issue. There's also a little scratching/peeling on the silver parts of my doorhandles/top of my shift ****, don't know if that'd be covered as well or not but those parts aren't a huge issue.
There's only one Infiniti dealer in my city so I don't want to blow the one shot I have to get it swapped under warranty. If you've done it, how should I phrase it so the service department doesn't deny me a replacement? Any other advice you'd give me?
Thank you all for all your help!

Yup, that's similar to how my steering wheel looked like before i got it replaced under warranty. Basically, I just called up my local dealership's service department, told them about the steering wheel issue and they were familiar with it because it's a known issue. Then I sent them some pictures through e-mail, so he can show it to his inspector without having me to drive there for nothing. It was approved and they replaced it. However, I haven't had much success with the door handle grip and shift ****. Tried three dealership and they all gave me the same crappy answer "Oh, its just typical wear and tear as the car ages" But, I have seen others get it replaced before, so it is possible.

My steering wheel looks just like that! My friend had her's fixed (or maybe replaced?) at the dealership under warranty. Not sure how she phrased the problem to the service dept. though.
I'll give my local dealership a call and see what they say. My warranty expires in about one week...

i think it's largely due to lotion/rings breaking it down. i know that the previous owner was a woman, this would make a lot of sense if that's the case

That does make sense. If the wheel cover is real leather, acids/sweat will break it down. I go through a pair of motorcycle gloves every season - season and a half for the same reason. They use kangaroo hide in those. Maybe treat the wheel with a leather conditioner, but that may leave it slippery.. Not something you want a steering wheel to be.

u can get the steering wheel covered no problem but the grab handles and shifter **** is tough, just make sure the ro states shifter **** material peeling, grabs materisl is peeling, it makes it easier to get covered by warry, saying it is dented, scraped, damaged will not get covered, it sounds weird but it works, some times i replace these items and the claim bounces back, but it is very scarce, so just try this and see if it works, good luck

i took my infiniti to the dealership and the service attendant noticed the steering wheel and asked if i wanted it fixed, i didn't think that was something that could be covered by warranty, but he brought it up. he wrote on the slip the bezel on the steering wheel was peeling so they gave me a new wheel and that the grab sides on the cluster were peeling so they replaced it too (he also brought that up without me saying anything)
