Question My 2008 S 5AT coupe feels sluggish. Drove a 2010 g37 sedan non-s

Since my car was getting warranty stuff done, I got a loaner 2010 G37 sedan loaner non-s with 21k miles.

I was very impressed with the power and the ride comfort. I know the new g37s are 7AT but dam compare to my 5at S I was shocked.

Is it because of 7at or something wrong with my car?

I always run 91 octane and always do proper maint

Someone who drove both 5at and 7at chime in please.

I am thinking about trading in already....

I have driven them back to back recently 08 5at vs 11 7at and the 7at is of course way smoother. I wouldn't say the 5at is sluggish but it is more of a standard tranny and the 7at is more refined.

I would say there is nothing wrong with the 5at but once you compare to the 7at you will most likely prefer it. From what you described nothing sounds wrong with your 5at, just your perception of what the shift points should be have changed

I've driven 4 different sedans with the 7AT's, and the only difference I could tell was the fact that there is more gears, the car shifts more often and so and so. My 5AT didn't feel sluggish at all going back into it. The only thing it made me wish for was for a 6AT... That would've been amazing.

OMG same exact feeling.

But on the 7at if I gently press on the gas the pick was great on my 5at I have to press a bit further down and don't wheel the exhilarate of power the same as 7at.

Plus love mpg on 7at.

Better gearing and lighter weight is the reason why your 5AT feels sluggish.
