windshield rock chips
I have some very very small rock chips on my G37 coupe front windshield and i want to repair it. I checked safelite website and they recommend to replace the whole windshield if i have more than 5 chips. I think i have around 20 very very very small tiny chips like dust. Do you think it is worth it to replace the whole windshield by filing an insurance claim and pay the deductible? I don't want to break the factory OEM windshield seal tho. Or do you guys think it's fixable even the website said i should replace it? Or should i just leave it like that since it's not that noticeable ??
Thanks
Thanks

Are they just chips in the glass or are they the starburst type?? If they're just small chips and they bother you that much you should be fine. If it's 20 of the starburst kind then you may have a problem.

Thanks for the reply guys. I don't have a problem paying for the new windshield but like i said i don't want to break the factory OEM windshield seal. Should i worry about that at all?
btw no they are not the starburst type. Just very very tiny chips like a dust on the windshield.
Thanks

I have them too. Some guys I've known just replace the windshield every other year. IMHO, It can be a very pricey for some cars. G's aren't too bad and if you file with your auto insurance, it might be covered 100% depending on your coverage this year... or next.
Personally, I'd wait until I have a crack or star. About the seal, based on my experiance, it depends on the installer. Also decide if you want OEM or "replacement" glass.

The post about insurance is only partially accurate. It depends on the state and type of coverage. Here in Oregon, you do have to pay a deductible and is only covered under comprehensive. Bottom line you are making a claim and asking money from your insurer. The law you might be thinking of only states that they cannot increase your rate based on a 'nofault' claim (such as the windshield as it is a safety item also).
Pay more to have someone who knows what they are doing. Tell the guy you are super paranoid about your car and would like to tip him if he is willing to take some extra time. Give the guy 40-60 bucks cash. There is no issue breaking the 'oem seal' unless the windshield is not re-installed properly. Heck, make the guy some BBQ too.
