G37x coupe to A5?

Hey guys, actually planning on getting rid of my 2009 G37x Coupe soon. Was just looking on thoughts of getting an a5? I havent gone for a test drive yet, but wondering how different its going to be. The drive/feel plus the hp, torque and everything. Any thoughts would be great. Would love the s5, but kind of out of my range of what im lookin for.

I test drove a S5. It was a beautiful car. Loved the looks of it. I was very disappointed in the power though. If you want a car based on looks than go for it!

i also test drove an a5 when looking for my g... i was not impressed with the 2.0 turbo... just felt like a jetta with a nicer/heavier body. the S5 is a different story... i was close to pulling the trigger on it, but felt that bang for the buck, the G was a better deal (and i wouldn't have such a big car payment).

the s4 (with the 3.0t) is pretty nice... but it's a sedan... essentially it's the same frame as the a5 though.

another thread about replacing the g with XXX car... prepare the fire trucks.

i love the power of the g, thats what i was afraid of. got spoiled. haha.

joeybags, you test drove and didnt like the power of the s5(or did you mean the a5)? i thought that would be better then the g and a5.

I really love the look of the a5 thats why im looking at it. The other option i was thinking was the c350 coupe coming out, but honestly not a fan of benz (i saw a thread on that)

The A5 is a beautiful car with best in class interior and below average reliability. The only engine available in the A5 is the 2.0L 4-cylinder, producing 211 hp & 258 torque, so I can't imagine it moves the 3,700 pound coupe with any urgency. A fully optioned A5 will set you back over 50 large, so it's far from a value. As others have said, it's strong point is its styling. I have a 2009 G37x Coupe and I am waiting to see what the 2013 G Coupe looks like.

put in a little more and get a 335i or 135i. that would be my say. never been big into style over value. at the end of the day its whatever you feel comfortable in. anything under ~300hp or slower than 0-60mph in under 6 seconds at the 40k price point is not something I personally would be okay with. The only thing I like about the a5 is its sex appeal, and it pretty much ends there for me. My friend has one and its a perky car, you can feel the turbo pull the car, but it just doesnt make the power that the g does. i have a '10 g37x and since youre coming from the same car, you will feel the a5 to be sluggish. I bet you'll get more head-turns with the a5 though.

^ ^ ^ My thoughts exactly

I personally thing the A5 is underpowered. Kind of like the Lexus IS250. But it is a nice car nonetheless if power is not your primary concern.

The A5 is a nice looking car, but I can't get over having 211 HP and a 2.0L I4. Having a high end luxury coupe is about feel, substance, and an overall experience. Even with the so-so 3.2L V6, the A5 was a much better feeling car with that engine. Speaking from experience, a good friend of mine has an 09 A5 S-Line 3.2L 6MT and it's a great car.

Do you really wanna look back years from now and think "What the hell was I thinking paying $45k+ for a 4 cylinder car with that little power."

Hell even cars half the price come with at least 50% more power. Luxury isn't about economy, even during these tough times. It's about power, excess, substance, and feel. Always has been, always will be. I don't want a GT car that has a motor that sounds like a sewing machine under load.

In short, you'll likely be pretty upset going from 330 HP to 211 HP, so I'd advise against the A5. S5 or nothing.

Autoweek on the A5: 6.4 seconds to 60
Autoguide on the G37x: 5.1 seconds to 60

Pretty significant difference.

Would agree; and would definitely feel the difference. Sort of like going from my daily driver 05.5 Jetta 2.5 to my G37x. Only a 4.4 difference.
