I believe they are so similar as to not matter really. However the xS is certainly faster on mud and snow, whereas the RWD S with LSD is just more fun to drive.

I believe the AWD will have an advantage in the beginning as the power distribution is a 50/50 split from a dead stop, which transfers power to all wheels equally. However as the car gains speed the power moves towards the rear until its 100% rwd. At that point, the additional weight from the AWD system might stop it from reaching the same top speed as the RWD car.

Basically in a 1/4 mile race the AWD would be ahead in the beginning but might be .1 sec behind by the end. This is in a perfect situation where both drivers had the exact same timing with their driving, start to finish.

I have a 2012 xS Coupe and it has front and rear LSDs....and when I turn traction control off it doesn't completely turn the nanny off however it allows a bit of fun going around corners while accelerating....and produces a bit of controlled fish tailing.

Did you swap the front diff, or did it come with an LSD?

Somebody with more engineering chops than me can weigh in, however... the AWD G has what's called ABLS (Active Brake Limited Slip). So functionally, it's left-to-right side limited slip behavior. But mechanically speaking... nope. You don't have front & rear LSD.

If you have the 2012 xS (which I have too) the front and rear have a Viscous Limited Slip Differential (VLSD). Instead of gearing it uses liquid and clutches similar to a torque converter in an automatic transmission. It's all controlled by the electronic clutch pack (ATTESA E-TS) to transfer power front to back/back to front, and from there it uses 4-Wheel Limited Slip ABLS to transfer power from side to side. Only the S cars have LSD, and only in the rear.

VLSD is still LSD. I'm 99% sure there is no VLSD on any of the awd models, only a VLSD on the RWD models. AWD is open diffs front and rear fairly sure.

^^Agreed, I've never heard of any awd models having any sort of lsd/vlsd.

@Mboxer511 can you show some references?

They're very similar in a straight line. I think the g37s being RWD will pull slowly away at higher speeds mainly because it's lighter.

If I didn't live in a snowy climate I would've preferred a G37S mainly due to the akebonos, LSD, and quick steering ratio.

The xS Coupe did come with the BBK, and limited slip was approximated through the ABLS system. But you're right about the steering ratio.

Here's the full features list: https://www.infinitihelp.com/models/...ifications.php

You know, if I were looking for a car today without a manual transmission, but with power and features, the xS Coupe would be a fantastic choice.

I did not know this about the xS Coupe as I thought all xS models shipped with the smaller brake package. The AWD vs RWD Sport model feature list is a common source of confusion on the /g37 reddit sub.

This thread cites some references to VLSD being an option on the xS coupe as well: https://www.myg37.com/forums/engine-...-on-awd-g.html

I wonder how rare coupes are which possess the full sport feature set?

In that trim it seems like there are a few. It seems like this was a 2010-2013 trim, however they continued and possibly released the same or more in V36 Q60S AWD trim.

I think in my city I've seen 1 of these trims and Ake were there. It then threw me off when I started to see the sedan version of this trim did not and also some did not come with a front lip either.

@14Q60awdSPORT might have some more info for us.
