From G37s to C class Coupe
#61
I realize the SLK is a smaller car, but is a real mercedes and not a wanna be as most of the small ones (C series in particular). The C and maybe even the S are not what mercedes is all about. They are sold more so purchasers can feel like and brag that they are driving a mercedes benz. Please. There are plenty of other options out there which are better and less money than the wanna be cars such as this. That is all i am trying to say. If you like mercedes, then buy a real mercedes and get the engineering and luxury.
You sound like a jealous hater when you repeatedly say that a C-class isn't a 'real' Mercedes.
The guys on the Mercedes forum can say the same thing to you--why are you buying a G when it's not a 'real' Infiniti.

You beat me to it... I said the same thing after you said it. But it is very true...although I suspect the G25 owners will probably get more of the "not a real Infiniti" nonsense because it's a less expensive vehicle. Still though, it takes an elitist attitude to even think that way.

guys... i don't know what the debating is all about...
truth is... if it's not an SLS it's not a real Mercedes! so if you can't dish out 200 grand... it's not a real mercedes... i don't care if it has a mercedes emblem... or if the title says it's a mercedes... or if i was built at a mercedes factory designed by mercedes engineers....
this is a silly arguement guys... seriously.
if a car is built and tagged with that brand... then it's that brand...
every car company builds cars for many different markets. some more affordable than others... would i like to own an m56? sure... but guess what... the g37 fits my afordability range and my personal preference. doesn't make it a "fake" infiniti...
and what makes someone think that majority of the people who buy lower tiered (don't wanna say lower end because that is NOT the case) cars buy them for the sake of bragging... if that was the case, people would buy cars like the Lotus Elise just to brag... after all, it's in the same price range as a fully loaded G37.
it all boils down to personal preference.

First of all I own a 2010 E class coupe. The C class is Mercedes Benz entry level car. In today's market place you can't survive on higher end models alone. An E class coupe optioned (and the key here is optioned...you don't order a stripped down Mercedes) is going to cost you $60,000 to $67,000 for the E350 (6 cyi). A C can be had for around $37,000 so you can see there is quite a price gap. Hence the reason C's sell so well as do E's. But a Mercedes is still a Mercedes C,E, or SLS.
Now to Infiniti. I own a 2003 G35 bought in December 2002. Currently has 20,252 miles on it. I loved this car when I bought it and still do today. If anybody has seen the new Road and Track the 2013 G37 IPL will have an AMG Mercedes Benz 5.5 liter V8. Exact hp is not known but upwards of 360 which I would guess will be low 400's. If this is a true AMG motor it will be built by hand. AMG is a completely seperate division of MB. The estimated price will be around the $70,000s.
So, you can still own a G and benefit from MB's advanced motor development.
Now for everyone who thinks MB's are unreliable...during the Chrysler/Damiler years MB did suffer issues. The Chrysler days are long gone as are the reliability issues. Since Damiler took control they have been dedicated to restablishing the MB repution for quality and technology. Most of the reliability ratings are based on customer surveys. The original E coupe results were based on a few months of JD Powers new owner surveys. I don't place much faith in these types of ratings. After 10,000 miles and 1 yr 3 months of ownership I have had zero problems. It is everything I expected a Mercedes to be.

I'd still pick BMW over MB though, unless it's the Silver Bullet
