Exclamation What is the best oil for G37?

Hi guys, can anyone tell me what is the best engine oil for a 2008 G37 sports package coupe? one mechanic suggested a brand i've never heard of and a viscosity of 5W50...I need to know the best brand and the best viscosity to use. Also, how do I check when to change the engine oil if it's running low? I changed the oil at around 1500 miles back only, the oil dipstick shows it's a bit low, but the mechanic for some reason said the dipstick isn't reliable specifically for the g37 and that i should only trust an oil measuring machine, whatever that is! (he thinks he knows everything, in my country all mechanics think they're the country's number one guy to go to and they know everything about everything, even if it's not about cars! :P)

There is no best oil, it is about what you like. I like Mobile 1, that is what i use in all my cars and they all run great.

Lots of threads on this, just do a search. I personally use Penzoil Platinum.

50 wt oil? An oil measuring machine? Is Capt. Kangeroo alive again and giving advice out of his azz?

Use the dipstick its fine, and use what the manual says 5-30 wt. I use synthetic Castrol Edge from Walmart on sale but throw whatever you want in there thats synthetic and on sale. You can always use that ester oil stuff the dealer pushes and says the car has to have which is bull****.

I change it at 6K miles and if it shows low before that I just add some. No reason to change synthetic oil before 6K on these cars but if it floats yer boat change it earlier.

If u don't mind shelling out $8 a quart, then Royal Purple is an excellent synthetic oil.

I was using Royal Purple and it didn't impress me. I went back to Mobil1 and my service interval for oil change is set to 3500 miles. At that interval I could run just about anything.

Gamedog, we're not all as experienced as u are, but then again i guess u have too much experience to share with us that u didn't bother to share ur opinion on the subject, thanks for wasting our time

2008G37s, yeah an oil measuring machine :P i told u i live in a ****ed up country where every mechanic thinks he's our savior hehe but u're right, the manual does say 5w30 and a friend of mine who drives a 370z said he uses the 5w30 full synthetic and it's great, but several of my friends driving Zs and Gs said they would rather use 4w10 Castrol magnetic oil! what's the difference between magnetic and full synthetic oil and the different levels of viscosity? how does the difference help the car? thanks for ur time guys, i really appreciate it!

If you are really concerned about an oil you choose, take a sample of it after 5K miles and send it off to a oil analysis lab. If you dont like the results switch brands when you change it and test that. Keep going till you are satisfied.

4w10 Castrol magnetic oil? Woo pee doo. Do they swing their ********* back and forth in their hands when telling you they use it as well?
