Does aftermarket exhaust kill classy feeling?

Fwiw
FWIW; I faced the same dilemma some time back. I used to ride a 328I and when I got the G37, it was like "wow.. the exhaust is awesome!". I was really split between having an aftermarket and not because I really felt stock was sweet. And I was definitely not into those purple/titanium tips as I felt they were way out of line for G. For me those tips scream "ricerrrrr/Civic"
Then I saw Tanabes in couple of cars and really liked the way they looked. I was drawn into them by the "dual cannister" look. And for an untrained eye they look stock. I once got pulled over by CHP and he was telling me that the exhaust sounded louder but can't find out why as "it doesn't look like you messed up with exhaust". And let me go(after the customary fixit ticket for "front license plate", of course!).
I love my tanabes. They look great(a slight twist from stock)..sound great and quite often I find myself rolling my windows down just to hear them. They are a tad bit louder than stock, but loooove the sound. Not going back to anything else

Yeah, and I put it on for track (and occasionally for a meet or canyon) duty only. Even a full titanium headerback netted less than a 3% gain, not to mention completely leaned out the AFR to dangerous levels; EGT was over 1800, albeit with no knock.
I use the exhaust for weight savings.
