Any year of the G37 to avoid?

Hi all, I am looking to purchase either a G37 coupe or BMW 335i coupe. Just curious are there any specific year(s) of the G37 coupe to avoid? Any issues you guys have/had or any major issues to look out for?

It will be my daily driver, want NAV and satellite radio for sure, 6mt, and a backup cam would be nice, but not necessary.

thanks in advance!

Always try to avoid the first year. I didn't, but I am still happy.

if you're worried about what to avoid, I would absolutely avoid the 335 b/c of the constant fuel pump issue that bmw cannot seem to fix. (someone correct if the issue has been fixed already)

all years are good. tsb's took care of muffler issues for 08 models. newer 7 speeds have programming/surge problems that should be fixed under tsb. random issues with all years having rotor warping, seat bubble, noisy vvel.

The G is a solid car. But at this point, you should aim toward newer years to get a longer warranty period out of it.

wow, thanks guys! as far as the 335i, i also hear they have a cooling issue when they are taken on the track for a while, the car just looses throttle and takes about 20-40 seconds to get back to normal. I don't know if that issue occurs with every day driving or long road trips though. so it seems that there isn't THAT much of difference between the various years unlike the G35's.

quick question for regarding the spoiler, I REALLY hate that chrome piece along the trunk lid, the spoiler available from the factory, does that still integrate with a back-up cam? or are there other aftermarke spoilers that look nicer.

but there aren't any mechanical issues from any years to look out for, like oil consumption or anything?

thanks!

Yes you can get the rear spoiler with the back up camera. I think the OEM spoiler looks the best for the G coupe.

Infiniti did a great job when transitioning from the G35 to the G37.

Mainly the headlights. The G35 headlights never grew on me. I like the angular G35 rear better though.

I have the first year G37 coupe, and besides the battery issue which is already fixed on most of them by this time, my ’08 has been trouble free. It is also worth noting that the ’08 will be less expensive to purchase over essentially the same generation car sold in subsequent years.

In fact if you get an early ’08 it will have an expanded voice command set not available in later models. However, I do wish I had the higher resolution nav that came out in 2010.

Had the 08 and now the 09 G37S (both coupe autos).. and here's the differences I've seen so far:
- 5spd vs 7spd for auto's
- seat heater button (2 level switch is now a multi-level ****)

As far as I know, the newer models than my cars have a refreshed front end and a few options here n there, otherwise all mechanical aspects are pretty much the same from 2009+

2008
  • No 7AT for the Automatic
  • Dead battery issue
  • Has directional headlights in Tech Pack
  • Has Compass in mirror
  • Standard resolution Nav
  • No multi-temp setting for seat heater
  • Aluminum Trim not as cleanly designed as 2010+ IMO
  • Windshield noise issue
2009
  • 7AT now available
  • Now has multi-temp setting for seat heater
  • Not sure if the windshield noise issue applies here.
2010
  • Directional headlights gone
  • No compass in rear view mirror (something that I wish I had)
All cars come standard with the seat bubble after a few thousand miles. Otherwise, this entire generation has been trouble free. You'll find that most all of us have had a great ownership experience when it comes to enjoyability and reliability.
  • HD resolution Nav screen
  • New aluminum trim
