Radar Detector hardwire

Has anyone done a radar detector hardwire? Not stealth install. If you have, do you have pics and how did you connected it to the fuse box? Did you use a switched connector or piggy back off of another connection? Was it hard to trail the wire down the A pillar?
Thanks

First I am assuming you are using a portable unit typically suction cupped to the windshield. Have you considered the Blend Mount rear view mirror connection? That is a really good solution. I'm not sure where you plan to mount the detector for the hard wired installation. At the roof? I would be concerned about maintaining signal reception based on where it gets located especially if it is designed to receive laser signals from both front and rear.

I just put in a blendmount and invisicord last week. Both work well. Make usre you get the smaller pins and the normal ones will not fit. It is tight.

Looks great. I will try to take pics today and post.

If you're still set on wiring to a fuse. Get an "Add-A-Circuit" from most any local auto store, then just tap into a fuse that is on when the car is on, I chose the one for the radio. My radar detector is one that has sensors mounted in the front/rear of the car so the blendmount is not an option, maybe he has the same?

I hard wired my V1 radar detector to the power supply in the ceiling light consul. You can also find a post from G37racer that show the tap in at mirror jack option.

Yup - hardwired. I mounted my unit on the top of the dash right next to the A pillar with a touch of velcro. The unit sits out of sight under my NJ inspection sticker on the windshield. Ran the wire down between the top of the dash & A pillar and by removing the a/c vent and side access panel got a straight run to the fuse box in the driver foot well to the left of the clutch. Connected to a switched fuse via piggyback with separate fused link (just to be safe) and put it all back together. Detector powes up on push ofnthe start button.

Sorry man, no pics but it is a snap!

Improvised "invisicord" assembly & install tip for Radar Detector - MyG37

good luck

Thanks, this seems like a lot less work than running down into the fuse box.

Ran mine with taps into the rear view mirror so I could remove the detector quickly and easily. Zero complaints doing it that way. Mounts via suction cup below the mirror so the rear antenna isn't obstructed.
