AWS Pros and Cons

First of all...Hi all...new member, first post. I've come from the Z world and am about to enter the G....

I have my eye on two very similar G's. The biggest difference is that one has AWS while the other does not. The difference in price is negligable. I've only heard a few random mixed things about the AWS system...based on that, I'm looking to the community to help me out.

I'm looking to get the most well rounded performance for all conditions from this car(mostly daily driver..or at least spring summer fall). Also looking to do some minor modding (wheels, possible drop, slight performance tweaks, etc). It won't be seeing much track time but may get tracked on (rare) occasion.

Having said that, can someone school me on the pro's and cons of the AWS system. I'm pretty well versed on the car in most other areas except this...

Help me to make an educated decision between AWS or no AWS.

If you're going to mod, avoid it.

AWS/4WAS = all wheel steering/4 wheel active steering.

It makes the rear wheels turn a few degrees to assist with tight turns and highway speed lane changes.

Everyone who has ridden in mine says the car is the equivalent of a scalpel. Laser sharp corners and steering is super responsive. I cannot speak for those w/o 4WAS.

4was is amazing,especially @ high speed.
that's the pro
extra weight/rear actuators are expensive to fix.
it does take a little to get used to not to oversteer, cornering is solid.

I have it and love it. You need to get used to it at first, but once you do the car tracks great through curves at speed.

It is totally acceptable for modifications as well.
My CF Fast intentions cleared without issue.
The Eibach lowering springs and camber kit was no problem.
Handles the power of the GTM TT without complaint.

About the only legitimate restraint regarding modifications is that one of the 6 available chassis braces does not fit with the actuator in place.

Having said that, nothing on this car is cheap to replace and the 4WAS system is another opportunity for a repair to be costly.

Sorry guys, yes, I meant 4WAS

Informative posts Tainui (also vibrant_red and RISKY GUY). I figured due to it being a more complex mechanism, it would naturally be a little more expensive to repair if needed. The bigger question here is, how much more expensive and what kind of failure rate are we looking at.

A couple other questions:

-Is it toggleable? Being a purist, sometimes I want less assistance when driving.

-How does it fair in inclement weather conditions? Does it help or hurt in this area (or is it neutral...no difference).

I see various posts saying avoid it (....if modding) but nobody really says why. Can someone elaborate on this? I'd appreciate it as having the supporting information is what could make or break my decision but simply saying avoid it doesn't tell me much.

Thanks guys...keep em coming
