Towel to Wash and Dry

I searched and couldnt find any threads about this...

On both of my previous cars ive had those annoying swirls that come after washing for some reason.

JUst wondering if anyone has a certain type of towel they use that does not cause this, ive used 100% cotten to a mitt to micro fibers, so i dont know which one is the best...Any thoughts?

I've always just used microfiber towels. On a side note, when you wash your car, are you using the two bucket method? With grit guards in each bucket too?

ive always just used two buckets both with regular car wash soap and water, switching between buckets when one looks dirty. After reading up it seems grit guard is something i need to invest in. Ive just got the G so haven't washed it yet thank god.

Self-Service Car Wash

Microfiber cloths are the best! Make sure to remove the tags so you don't scratch your paint when drying.

On a slightly different note, for those who don't have the convenience and luxury of their own driveways, I recommend one of the self-service car washes.

I never use their foam brush (that's just asking for scratches), but the powerful spray is good to get rid of any caked on dirt, industrial fallout, brake dust, etc.

Macroair, microfiber the remaining. Works great for wheels, gets' that water out the inner wheel and rotors for less rusting. My car really seems to like it.. almost puts a smile on it's bumper...

There is your first mistake. What you are doing is just using 1 wash bucket twice over. Go to Detailed Image - Premium Auto Detailing and Car Care Products and read their how-to guide and utilize the correct two bucket method.

In relation to your original question, a waffle weave microfiber towel is your best friend when drying the car (after you sheet the water of course). You can find those at DI as well.

I've used 1 bucket, microfibers all the time for everything, no swirls, not scratches on a black coupe. I remove the tags as well but a tag will not scratch your paint.... any swirls that do appear disappear after a day or 2 with that self healing clearcoat

My G is black and I used to wash it improperly. I have since learned a ton about detailing and get paid to do it now. I personally prefer a chenille microfiber mitt over anything else.

There are also garbage micro fiber mits and towels as well especially the ones from Chine so check them carefully first time you use them or before you buy them.

Very very true. That's why nothing touches my car (detailing wise) unless it's from Detailed Image. Period.

I don't have a place to wash my car so I always bring to a friend of mine that is a professional detailer. 35 bucks for basic handwash and wax, can't beat that!
