Did you do anything to strengthen the new one?

Red,

Thanks for the info. Then how come when my TCM got reflashed it took about a week before the transmission finally settled down? I posted about this earlier about it searching for gears. And same situation when my wife had the car for a month. As soon as I got it back, it was just like the TCM got reflashes and it was searching for gears.

I drive the same exact route to work at the same exact speeds over the same exact hills. The mindless repetition of the daily commute makes it pretty easy to notice when your transmission is doing something differently. You notice it the most over hills going up, and with the transmission downshifting going down the hill. After a few weeks, it was back to my normal driving style and nice and smooth.

I can only guess, there is one thing that does learn and that's the ECU. Under the fuel adjustments it stores both short term and long term settings. Basically short term is real-time trims and long term trim is used to bring short term back to 0 on trends like summer to winter and changes in performance characteristics as well, parts wearing, getting clogged ect.. When you got flashed this learning got wiped and it had to relearn. Perhaps this ECU's learning is what's responsible for things smoothing out.

I'd say it depends alot on you age actually, Younger guys probably prefer the 6mt, which I think IS the best tranney for this car...me, I can't be bothered with having to shift full time, so I got the 7at.. I also like the fact that this trans has 3 modes and overall has performed nicely with only the occasional confustion....
