Warm up on cold mornings

yeah. i do the same. if i'm in a big hurry, i wait for the minimum 30 seconds that the manual calls for. then i easy out. shift at around 3000 rpms...anything under and the cold transmission lurches. have to be easy going into 2nd as it doesn't go in as readily when cold. it's sort of annoying. considering an auto start. not sure how i'd bypass the clutch though....

No matter how late I am, I always turn on the engine first, wait till rpm goes down . usually 45 sec to 1 min (depends on weather) and drive slowly under rpm 3k till temp comes up to normal range.
I also turn my engine off after I leave the gears at P for about 30s to 1min.

I'll wait for the revs to drop after start-up, but then I'm off.
I'll keep revs low until the engine temp goes up to normal. On our cars, that happens within a few minutes.

I remember that from my college time - not much difference for internal combustion engine to stay and warm or drive slow rpm and warm. However if temperature is very cold I do warm couple of min staying near to home. Remember transmission oil and other parts need warm up as well.
